i see some camaros with black colored headlight "area" (the top part of the bumber where the headlights are)
and others with body color.

What camaros had black ones and witch ones were body colored?

 

Typically the RS models were body colored and the Z28/IROC cars had black headlight pockets. There are some exceptions to that rule (certain colors in certain years), but thats the general rule.

My LT has black headlight pockets. Certain colors on the Sport Coupe got Argent (gray) colored pockets.

You could do a search and find that this subject was discussed in great detail a few years ago.

Basically, all Z28's and IROC-Zs got the satin black headlight buckets. The only RSs that got it were the Heritage Edition RSs in 1992. The Berlinettas and LTs also got the black buckets. There was a gray bucket available to one style but I can't remember which model got that. I also think all sport coupes from 85-87 had black headlight buckets.

The correct color is semi gloss/satin, not gloss. If it's gloss black, the buckets were repainted.

 

According to my color codes and other Sport Coupes and LT's I have seen, some of the Metallic Reds, Yellow, and Blue's in 1987 had Gray pockets and matching lower rocker panel area depending on paint and stripe combinations. In fact, there was a yellow LT for sale somewhere in the mid-west that had the gray pockets. I captured a pic of it and will post it when I get home.

In the chart, it only says lower accent color but it also corresponded with the headlight pockets and three air intakes on the nose.
