my dad use to have an 89 firebird formula with the 305 tbi engine and automatic transmission. this for the most part was all stock except the exhaust he put in it. the main question i have is that the rear was a disc. i thought this was only a higher class v8 thing?? when he bought the car it was like that and he got it from a lot and they said it was all factory

any one care to clear this up for me as im wondering why did his have it when i now have an 88 with t5 but drum rear ):

 

It was an option. It was required on and off through the years on the higher end packages, but it was an option for I think anything but a Base Firebird.

I am not sure if rear disc brakes were an option for the L03. From 1988+ I do not recall ever seeing an L03 with rear Disc brakes from the factory. Considering the car is long gone, its impossible to verify anything, as only an SPID, possibly the VIN (if it was a car sold in Canada) The only way to get rear disc brakes as far as I know would have been to order an LB9/M5 or L98, I also know that the rear discs were an option on the LB9/A4 cars for some years 87 to ???

86 had the LB9/A4 combo available with rear discs as well...my TA has them, verified by my invoice.
