Do you think our cars will go up in value over the next 10 years like muscle cars did from the 60s and 70s? Im talking about $40K and up. Will the GTA be more valuable than the Iroc or Z28? Will the GTA 87-90 be worth more than the 91-92? Im interested to know what others think about this. I know the extreamly rare cars will be always worth alot, but what about rest of the 3rd gens? Will certain years be worth more than other years? Will these cars never get the desire like a GTO Judge has or a Super Bee? Thank you for your thought.

Re: GTA, Iroc values
I seriously doubt it...

As I say all too often, these cars simply didn't excite the buying public like 60s cars did. The 70s pretty much ruined that. There basically WERE NO muscle cars after about 72.

Think back 15 years ago. What was people's opinions of late 60s muscle cars back then? Say, a 69 Z28; what did people think about those in 1996? Would you say, that in 1996, a 69 Z28 was highly sought-after, remembered with pride, coveted?

Now compare that to what people think about a 84 Z28 today. That car is today the same age as that 69 was in 1996. How does the attitude, the value, the desirability, all that, compare? Be honest.

There's your vision of the future as it concerns these cars, right there. Anybody that ignores that is detached from reality.

But no question, the ones that have the best chance of retaining any significant value at all, are the top-of-the-line ones; GTA, IROC, and the like.

Re: GTA, Iroc values
I still think this thread will get locked, but let me say this...

in 1986, I could have bought a 1970 GTO for $1000. I took the car to a mechanic to get it checked out, it was running and driving just fine. Can't remember what was wrong with it, but the mechanic said it wasn't worth that, and I should NOT buy it

I know stupid, but hindsight is 20/20

that car in the same condition would bring at least 10-15K now, 30-40K restored.

there was a time that even those cars were bargains

Yes, There are several factors in play here that really are hard most people to to grasp... 1) The prices of third gens will automatically raise due to inflation. From inflation ALONE, $4,000 in 1967 is the equal to $26,114.49 in 2010 Dollars. 2) Honestly you can still easily get a nice 1st gen Camaro in the 20,000 range http://motors.shop.ebay.com/Cars-Tru...amaro&_yr=1967
3) NOT ALL 3rd Gens are equal. A car with an IROC sticker or a GTA sticker may or may not mean that the car will meet that 40K magical price that you seek. The 350 cars and the LB9/M5 cars are the cars to own, all others are questionable...
4) If you are wanting to buy as an investment... STOP, invest in something like the Stock market, or Gold, or Silver, traditionally your money will go further in the future.

Personally i think it will be a wash. IROCs may slightly outpace GTA's just because they were more in the price range of the car when new. Camaro's were within more peoples grasp, and it sold better because it was less expensive. Ultimately like about any other gen, even though the Firebird may have been a slightly upscale car over the Camaro, the Camaro seems to demand slightly more.

Hard to say, Ultimately it will be what people prefer. Although cosmetically different, they are still the same car underneath. It will be a personal preference. Many people hate the 91-92, others think they "rock" others strongly prefer the 85-90 styling. Buy what you like.

Honestly I have yet to really see the 82-84 & 86 cars take off, the 85, 87-92 cars seem to demand more. I think the problem is the performance of the former is overshadowed by the 85 & 87-92. The 350 really helped the image of the 3rd Gen. Again, it will depend on personal preference. The performance numbers for year to year are similar, although the 92's probably were the hottest, an 87 could easily be made as quick without much trouble.

Yes, Yes and Yes. All of those cars are specialty cars, similarly you can follow the desirability of the Firehawk (91-92) and a TTA, and 1LE's and a limited number of performance Convertibles, then there will also be small groups of cars that will demand a premium. As a reference You will struggle to buy a 91-92 Firehawk for less than $50K. A TTA, is anywhere above 10K and UP, nice low miles TTAs in the $25K to $30K range. A convertible TTA is $60K+. LOW MILES 1LE's in the $20K range.

Honestly read this: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...re-asking.html

Most of the cars listed have potential. The list is simply by production numbers, I think any of the cars with a L98 or LB9/M5 (as mentioned before) or better are worth snatching up. All others are... well... up to the purchaser.
