how rare is this shifter ****?
i believe this is a camaro 1982 auto shifter ****. just the button
its the exact same style as the 1982 firebird/trans am **** and knight rider style **** but instead of pontiac its the chevy logo on the button.
i just bought it from modernday muscle. in all the years looking at parts on ebay and junk yards i have never come across this type of shifter **** for a camaro.
i bought it to add to my collection just on a whim.
and curious to know more about the history on this style ****.
the handle is the same cylinder type like the 1982 pontiac knight rider style handle

i mean maybe it was mislabled and is meant for a slightly older camaro like 78-81 because i know pontiac had similar ***** like the 82 cone style. but hey thats why i'm asking in the historic thread haha

looking quickly on ebay i found the 74-81 cone style which is similar to thirdgen cone style but the center is curved down for your thumb.

granted it was listed as knight rider 1982 shifter **** button and they to recognize the chevy logo on top. but they also list that it is new old stock never used and never modified

Re: how rare is this shifter ****?
Thats pretty cool....would look better if it was red white and blue.I trimmed a 4th gen nose emblem down and fitted it into a button I have for an 82 knight rider ****.BTW in case you didnt know, those same buttons were used on 70-81 firebirds,73?-82 grand prix`s and maybe a few other pontiacs. The grand prix button has the pontiac arrow while the firebird button has the bird on it

Looks like it's the button for an '82 Celebrity with floor shifter. Maybe '83 too, I can't remember.

Re: how rare is this shifter ****?
From the Dealer's Illustrated Parts Catalog for the 82 Camaro with AT, the shifter **** part numbers are:
4.006 **** Trans Cont Lever (Pont) ....................10026960
4.006 **** Trans Cont Lever (Chev){w/Z28} ........14063975
4.006 **** Trans Cont Lever (Chev){Exc/Z28} ......14063976
The **** button numbers are:
4.006 Button, Trans Cont Lever **** (Pont).......................10023821
4.006 Button, Trans Cont Lever **** (Chev){W/Z28}...........14019442
4.006 Button, Trans Cont Lever **** (Chev){Exc/Z28}.........14019442
I have no idea what Chevy model/year that **** button was used for, but clearly not the 1982 F body with a TH200c auto tranny.

Re: how rare is this shifter ****?
Right, the 82's had the round **** with smooth button lust like the following years. I can almost guarantee it's an '82 Celebrity button, I'll look through my old brochures.
Re: how rare is this shifter ****?
I bet if you look around you will find similar handles in other GM's in other years. I had a Blazer that had a similar shifter handle for the 4 wheel drive. Rather than smooth all the way up it had a couple grooves for your hand to grip.
