The Whats Taking So Long Project. Restomodding the 84.

I've been on these boards for a couple years now. Those who've seen my thread on early third gen, and some on here know I'm restoring an '84 Trans Am. But it never seems to get anywhere....

Quick background. The car is a Sand Gray Metallic with silver striping and W62 GFX 1984 Trans Am. It was an original L69 T5 car that my Dad bought in 1990. He drove it daily for years and gradually it became the summer toy and third car. While his daily was in the shop he was forced to drive it because he had no choice despite his knowledge that the car was not doing well. The original motor blew up on him at 172,000 miles in 2002. He kept the car hoping to re do it and get it running again. Early in 2004 I got tired of sitting around looking at it and tore apart the motor in 6 hours. The cause was a thrown lifter, broken pushrod, twisted rocker. Anyway, a friend had an LG4 we got for free. After limited time due to school, several issues and the sudden death of my Dad in 2008 I finally got the car running again in 2009. I never quite got it right and it was nickle and diming me. Finally I decided to just redo the whole car. And as it sits now its a bare shell with parts everywhere and slow progress.

I thought about the car and remembered our lil Father Son discussion about possibly having some fun with it and go with a bigger motor. Well...I decided to do that and take the whole build one step further.....While the car is on the desirable list with 7,051 built (no doubt the number goes lower with T tops) I decided the mileage was too high, and the car was while interesting, nothing too special. So, I sat down one day and drew up plans.

Long story short, I want to make this car look as bone stock as I possibly can, with only two or three things in the interior giving it away. As for the exterior, the goal is to make the general observer take a second look to realize something is up. I have in mind the following:

383 carb stroker
LT1 T56
UMI rear suspension
Koni Yellows
Eibach Pro Springs
Either UMI or BMR A arms up front
C4 12 in front brakes
PBR 11.6 in rear brakes
Moser axles
Subframe Connectors

Due to limited funding pics and progress will be slow coming, but its keeping me busy for the most part.

I'll try to get pics up by the end of the week.

You got it. "Ah another Turd Gen TA with a 305." Proceeds to take people out for rides... and the responses go along the more colorful side. Ideally unless you know what you are looking at, or you don't notice the 6 speed pattern and 160 speedo, you'll have no idea what it really is if the hood is closed. I'll get pics ASAP.
