Re: Silver 1988 1Le A4U

This is a Canadian Player's car. The precursor to the 1LE. It will not have the code 1LE, but as the seller states, A4U. The car was built for the Canadian Racing circuit.

Re: Silver 1988 1Le A4U

There just looks to be so much wrong with that car. Fake side exhaust pipes, base camaro tail lights, valve cover breathers, whatever those things are in the fog light position, etc.

Re: Silver 1988 1Le A4U

Those "fake" side exhaust pipes are actually correct for a Players car. The "fog lights" I believe are brake cooling ducts. Its a race car.

Re: Silver 1988 1Le A4U

Wonder if that's the original cage and who drove it... Might be worth more to someone if it's got some history. Personally it looks like it just came off the race track and hasn't been touched since other than the tacky window net lol.

Re: Silver 1988 1Le A4U

Probably worth around half of the asking price, if not less. The door jamb tells me it was a red car at one point, unless my eyes deceive me.

Re: Silver 1988 1Le A4U

If the side exhaust came from the factory, can you still buy them?

Not sure how legal the sude exhaust would be, but it looks great and might be a performer.

I'd say the paint is original. Only the factory could do a job like that with the flaky paint on the bonnet.

Re: Silver 1988 1Le A4U

You seriously think the paint is original? On a race car that doesn't have any decals or sponsor stickers left? The color isn't even a factory color for 88. It's a definite repaint. And a not so good one at that. It looks lik ethe car might've been white at one point based on firewall color.

Weren't most of the Player's cars white or even black? It gave the sponsor a blank canvas to start with.

You might be able to find it, but it wouldn't be available through GM. The exhaust wasn't about performance, it was about noise for the fans.

Procure the VIN, run it on compnine.com... it should be in there considering that it was a Canadian car.

Re: Silver 1988 1Le A4U

Interestingly it is one of the more COMMON cars I have seen... Most third gens come back as 1 of 2 or 1 or 3 that have the exact option list... This one is 1 of 11...

Not like it means anything, just thought it was funny

Re: Silver 1988 1Le A4U

So aside from A4U, is there anything desirable or special about this car? Does he have documented race history? Seems to me the asking price in conjunction with the condition are a little off base...

Looks like it's been desecrated quite a bit, which is of course what God and Chevy intended when they built these. You could probably bring it back to stock if you threw enough money at it but at his price, I should think not.

The exhaust was available over the counter to race teams. Post 86/87 cars were ordered in mostly white or black, my 87 TA/is factory red and silver.

Re: Silver 1988 1Le A4U

Just ran the VIN through my lists. It was the 50th A4U camaro made for the 1988 series. 1 of 50 white cars, 1 of 8 cars with a black interior, and together 1 of 6 white cars with black interiors. In 1988 you could order an A4U with no options, or you could add the X05 or X06 package. THis one looks like it has a few options ... the power windows were nice as the door bar in the roll cages got in the way of the window crank. The 1987 I had, had no options! It was the lightest car you could have gotten (which is why they standandardized the package by 1989 - which also helped resale).

The side exhuast was available to the race teams through the parts counter. It was street legal in the sense it had covers to go over the tips and block it off.

Mark.

Re: Silver 1988 1Le A4U

The cage looks correct for 1988 as the early ones went through the dash. The later ones were designed so they didn't cut up the dash. The racing seat looks newer than the one in the series ... but more comfortable. For the car to be legal in the racing (back in 1988), all the original equipment needed to be there like the seats, roof liner, etc.

1988 cars should have a CASC plaque on the cowl which has the driver's CASC number on it.

$38K??? wow.
