New Z28 Owner
Guess this is the place to introduce myself... (couldn't find anywhere more appropriate).
Just picked up an 83 Z28 (LG4 from what I can tell) this weekend.
Found it on craigslist and got a smokin deal on it, although it's gonna need a little work to get it running.
Has a 5-speed Manual, with a 350 swapped in. No carb/intake installed yet, and the fuel tank was dropped. According to the previous owner, this car has passed hands 3 or 4 times in this condition. At some point someone swapped in an 85 Corvette motor (the 350)and had intended to installed the fuel injection, but never completed it. Then the next guy removed the system and tried to return ti back to a carb setup, but never finished.
SOOOO... I have to install the tank, fuel pump, everything about the Manifold, and hope she runs.
Also came with a 12" Edelbrock Tunnel ram manifold, but haven't decided if I'm going to install it yet.
Best thing is.... Paid $400 for it.
Should (keeping finers crossed) be able to get it together only buying basic maintenance items (plugs, wires, air filter, etc) and a few nuts & bolts. Maybe rebuild the carb, but everything else seems to be in decent shape.
Will put up some pics soon (they're not online yet) but it's not much to look at yet (needs some cleaning up).
Have some question to post elsewhere, so I'll be around...
Cheers

Re: New Z28 Owner
Welcome aboard! Sounds like you found something good. People sell a decent car and good parts just because they got tired of trying to make it work. Their loss is your gain. With some persistence I bet you can get her up an running. Especially nice to see an earlier thirdgen get chance at a new life again. Don't be shy about posting pics. Most of us have cars or had them in the same shape you do. One thing that surprised me about this board is how active and helpful the members are. We'll give you all the support you need
That intake sounds interesting. Post some pics of that too.

Re: New Z28 Owner
i feel 83 is correct. it looks like someone has just swapped some things over the years, like hatch/ or spoiler, hood, front bumper, rockers, and taillights. everything else seems right. the rear bumper is correct, the seats and door panels are correct, and its hard to tell but i think the shifter plate shows 4 speed. the only thing im "unsure" of is the dash cluster. i know some had the twin needle speedo, and some didnt. i think it changed to that style in the pic in 84. but i could be wrong since its a z28. the base models in 83 had the twin needle, and usualy a fuel guage in place of the tach.

Re: New Z28 Owner
i thought they were all double needles until 85. and the 115 MPH speedometer is certainloy late 80's.
in any case, somebody went to a great deal of trouble to make that car not look like an 83

Re: New Z28 Owner
like i said, the cluster was one i was unsure of. you may be right. hold on look at the tach, its the older style that stopped in 84. notice it doesnt have the yellow-to-red line going around the notches? it just has the colored notches. so i think they just swapped the speedo. i know thats what i did on mine instead of doing the complete cluster. but also look the carpet where the driver side floor mat usualy would sit, its got the old style "plastic-rubbery" grip. completely differant shape than the later ones

Re: New Z28 Owner
Yup. It's definately an 83. I even have the title for it.
Haven't done enough research to know the subtle difference from year to year, but I'm not all that surprised that a few things have been swapped out. I mean REALLY... If someone went to the trouble to put in a 350, then why not swap a few more details while they're at it. The parts can be had cheap if you can find one in a junkyard.
And it's Not a 4-speed. It's a 5-Speed Manual. Hence the tach...
If be getting a few parts in the next couple weeks so I can get the tank and carberetor installed. Then I can mess with the wiring, vacuum lines and stuff and see if I can get this thing running...
