GTA, 5.7, and T Tops

What years could you get a GTA/Trans Am/Formula with a 5.7 AND T Tops? I thought it was only in 1989. Also, was there ever a year were the only option for the GTA was the 5.7?

Not sure about the T top question, but all years of GTA had the 5.7 engine and auto as standard equipment.

5.0 engine with either auto or manual were options that would earn a credit.

Re: GTA, 5.7, and T Tops

1987 was a Canadian option only on GTA
1989 Lots of them were made GTA, Formula and some T/A
1991 & 1992 Formula only

As for the only option was the 5.7... Technically the 5.7 was not an "option" it was standard. The 5.0L M5 was a credit option for all years, from around 1990-1992 the 5.0L A4 was NA AFAIK. I know that the 5.0L A5 was an option in 1987, not sure about 88 & 89...

I know in 1991 the 5.0 A4 option was available as that is what my 91 GTA is.

John,

In all years the 5.0/A4 was available so that you could get t-tops with an automatic. I considered buying a gorgeous green/tan leather '91 GTA with 20k miles and a 5.0 A4 setup...it was only $8,200, too

I shoulda snapped it up...

Re: GTA, 5.7, and T Tops

Looking at the figures Frankie has on GTASourcepage for 1989 GTA, it shows 366 5-speeds and 366 LB9s. He has also mentioned there was no 305/Auto in the 1989 GTA. Those two figures above would appear to support that. While it shows 8,104 automatic GTAs and only 6,554 L98s, that figure includes the TTA auto transmission. So the 305/Auto didn't appear to exist in the 1989 GTA US market.
