Engine confusion in 84 Z28 restoration
Engine confusion in 84 Z28 restoration
We are restoring a 1984 Z28 and are installing a 305. The Block casting is 14102058, which identifies the block as a 305, 87-91, roller lifters (some indicate flat lifters). The Engine code is K1027TWA, which indicates the original engine use was a 350ci in busses. There is no partial VIN.
Question is, what kind of engine do I really have. I would like to know if I have flat or roller lifters as I need to buy a new distributor and want to make sure it is compatible. I know I could tear the thing back down and ID whether flat or roller, but wonder if there is a simpler way.
Edelbrock carb and intake manifold are being used.
Finally, any recommendations for type of distributor to get and what distributor gear (composite?) is called for.
Thanks

The cam could be flat tappet or roller, it depends on what it was originally installed in. Camaros, Firebirds, and Caprices got the roller cam, trucks and vans got the flat tappet cam.
