What years did thirdgen's get the gray gas cap?
I know 1982 to 1984 had a metal covered gas cap and my 1989 has a black cap.

 

My 87 has that one. The 89's is black.

 

my 85 has the grey gas cap.....btw whats the dif?

 

All my 89s have a gray gas cap from the factory.
I'm thinkn they switched around the time they switched to black around the time of SD TPIs in 1990?? Maybe?
My 92s both have black caps..

The one in the pix doesnt have white lettering on it at all.

 

I worked at a gas station in the early 90's. We had boxes of gas caps people forgot to put back on their cars. Sometimes they would come in and say "I left my gas cap, did you see it?" I would grab whatever was on the top of the pile and hand it to them "Oh yeah, here it is". Unless I personally owned a car from day 1, I would never assume a used car has its stock cap.

 

my 85 z has the gray cap

 

My 88s both have grey, my 86 had grey (put a new one on, it was filthy), and my old 89 RS had grey as well.

 

No metal on my 84's cap.

 

My 91 is grey
