Is this original?

On my 1984 Camaro Sport Coupe, I found that under the bumper there is an air valve that when filled with air raises the rear shocks. Theres just a little hole cut out with the valve and two air tubes running to each shock.

Was this an original stock feature?

Thanks.

Re: Is this original?

Back in the 80's where I grew up it was all the rage for the kids to put air shocks on the back of their car to raise to back end. It was 'Cool'. I remember having them on a Rustang I had. I only had the back end lifted for about two weeks before I set them back to a normal ride height. I would not be surprised if this is why you happen to have them on your car. Thankfully that phase of my life is long gone.

Re: Is this original?

Check the upper shock mounts CAREFULLY for already being punched out of the floor pan.

Re: Is this original?

There IS at least ONE valid reason for air shocks on a 3rd Gen.
Have you ever tried to carry 2 bicycles on the back, w/a bumper mount ?
They sit VERY close to the ground, and scrape the ground a LOT.
(Speaking from experience). Let's hope this is why it has air shocks.
