The following numbers are from the Camaro White Book.
85-88 (neither silver or yellow were offered thereafter). Here are the numbers, though I don't think it's possible to break them down into particular models.
85 silver 11684 / yellow 4599
86 silver 11750 / yellow 3915
87 silver 4997 / yellow 3052
88 silver 1574 / yellow 922
Silver = 30,005
Yellow = 12,844
Apparently, silver met. was a one-year IROC color in 85, yellow went from 85-87. Since I've never seen another silver met. IROC in person (I have seen a handful online), I'd guess it's the rarer color of the two, but I wouldn't bet much on it either.
Here's a list (from my 85 Camaro brochure) of IROC colors. These colors were divided between 21,177 IROCs:
Silver Met.
Black
Bright blue Met.
Yellow
Red
I've seen many black, blue, and red IROC's, but far fewer silver met. and yellow ones.
Check out medium orange or medium gray in 88.

Wasn't there a gold color that was only offered in '82?

Note that the OP is inquiring about 85-90 IROC's.

Just to clarify the white 85s. I was told that white 85 IROCs was available in the spring of 85. This would make sense because the 85 brochure (printed sometime in 84) does not list white. My white 85 was built in May.

Higher numbers than I would have thought. Not sure I've ever seen a gold one before ...Originally Posted by NCGuy68

1985 - yellow
1986 - yellow
1987 - yellow
1988 - Medium Orange
1989 - Bright Blue
1990 - Dark Red
The yellow was only available from 85-87 on the IROC-Z. It was available in 1988 only on the Sport Coupe. The majority of the colors were available on non IROC-Z cars, so we can't be certain what the count is for the IROC-Z only. The least popular color has to be the 1988 Medium Orange with only about 3k made for the IROC-Z and the Sport Coupe.

Interesting choice of words. I believe the correct statement should be least produced you have no personal data on popularity.
I saw the first orange '88 Iroc in my life a few months ago. It was for sale on Craigslist, but it looked pretty rough.
Ive seen the Medium Orange IROCs before around, and for sale and i can say even though it might the least common, its a very ugly color in my opinion on the IROC. But my answer would have been grey though if not orange. I dont hardly see any grey or gunmetal metallic which ever of the two it was called.

In short then, probably the three 1-year-only colors -- 1985 silver and 1988 medium orange and dark gray. Followed by 1985-87 yellow cars.

Most do not believe it is the factory color. 3,010 cars produced and was available on the IROC or Sport Coupe. However, I have only seen one Sport Coupe car ever with the color and it is owned by rsmith085 on this board. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...re22643-a.html
There is another IROC in mint condition in NY. Like most thirdgens the other remaining cars have been run into to the ground.
The color was reused by GM in 2001 to 2002 Camaros and renamed Sunset Orange Metallic.

Are you absolutely 100% positive its the SAME color as SOM? If so, I just changed my mind and I want another 88 instead of a Firebird. My father has an SOM 2002 Formula, and its the best damn color ever. Originally Posted by burnout88

Yes, it is the exact same color. My friend has a 2002 Sunset Orange SS Camaro and we can park side by side and the paint color is exactly the same!! Exactly the same!!Originally Posted by Jason E

I actually use Sunset Orange Metallic touchup paint for my front nose and body rock chips because I can buy it right off the shelf at the local auto parts store and it is a direct match.
I am not sure if they made any production LB9 5-speed cars in Medium Orange. All the cars I have seen have been 5.0 or 5.7 autos.
However, I do know that a GM Engineering test car was made in Medium Orange in 88 in a 5-speed, with a posi, 3.45 gears, an oil cooler and 4 wheel disc brakes. This attached Road and Track article from 1988 featured the Medium Orange 5-speed car. Also, had no A/C or radio. Wonder if it was a 1LE car? Stripped down cars usually did not get these go fast parts and brakes.

I like the orange... Almost bought an Orange Metallic Formula 350 with almost zero options... No AC, No power windows, no cruise, nothing but a factory Cassette and power antenna...

Brian, I remember when you lived in Chicago and the Camaro club had a show and we parked your car next to a 4th gen Sunset Orange Metallic car and we all looked at them both - and honestly I couldn't tell the difference in color.
That '88 in the R&T story, is a car that has always stuck itself into the back of my head. Sometimes I cruise CL, wondering if I'll ever run across it. Knowing GM though, I'm sure it was crushed long ago.
Oh, BTW, the least common color has got to be the beige on your dad's '85!

I actually have a picture from when we did that! But at the current moment cannot find it. The 4 gen I was parked next to was owned by Brian Mal and he now lives in North Carolina and still has his SOM SS car. That was the day I figured out GM just reused the color. Originally Posted by chazman

It would be really cool if that 88 in the R/T story showed up. I still think that car was an early prototype for the 1LE package that GM Engineering was working on. It sure is packaged like a 1LE car but you are probably right that it was crushed.
The actual color of my dad's car is "light yellow" GM code 54 - WA8525 http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/brochure...age=10&scan=10
The "light yellow" only came on Z28's and sport coupes no IROC's

I remember an orange SC from back in the day...looked a lot better with silver gfx vs. gold, IMO...
Just had the IROC out today for a ride to lunch and back (wonderful 97 degree weather here in Western MA). Glad my R12 AC is ice cold in that bad boy
Other than a small stumble on initial throttle tip in at idle when its really hot out, I seriously cannot find a thing about this car that strays from a brand new one. Frankly, with the way my old RS drove when it was brand new, I would say this trait was probably present the day it left Van Nuys

My friends mom had a white IROC back in the day. I'm not sure what year it was though.

Just stumbled on this while trying to search for the number of medium orange cars produced with a stick. I wish GM would of kept better track of production numbers. I can attest that people do not believe it's the factory color, I didn't believe it myself. I usually just show them the door jams that still have the gm stickers on it.
