IROC help please!!

I recently bought a "1984" camaro but I am very confused if this is the actual year of the car. The sheet with the original information was not with the car and I want to know the actual year. The only reason I question the year is because the dash says Z-28 IROC and it has IROC on the lower part of the door. I though the IROC did not come around until 1985. Any help appreciated. Thank you

Re: IROC help please!!

Chevrolet's contract with the International Race Of Champions allowed the name to be used starting with the 1985 model year production. In turn, Chevy agreed to provide cars for the race series. In years prior to that the race body had used all manner of cars; I seem to recall Porsches at least one year for example.

If there was a 1984 "IROC", it wasn't a Chevy.

If your VIN code (9th char) is "E", it's a 1984, and therefore not an "IROC-Z".

Stickers are cheeeeeeep, and eeeeeeeeezie to stick on anything whether they belong on it or not.

Re: IROC help please!!

the vin number is 1G1AP87GXEL165585

i believe since the 10th digit is 'E' that the car is actually an 1984...confused at all the effort someone did just to call it an IROC

Re: IROC help please!!

85s would have gone on sale in late 84. I've seen cars sold with the year listed as the build or sale dates rather than model year, maybe this is one of those cases. Got any pics of it?

He posted the VIN, which doesn't lie about what model year it is.

Re: IROC help please!!

It looks like a heavily modded 1984 Z-28 with Iroc markings...

Re: IROC help please!!

Pretty unique car. I see 2 spoilers, an 86 hatch glass, iroc decals in the wrong spot and aftermarket ground effects. Really different looking.
