Re: Looking for 1987 Convertibles with VIN 3
What are the holes above the door handle/lock for? My car has them but they are painted over and aren't as pronounced as this last one. It's always been a question of mine but figured a previous owner just did something crazy to the doors. Thanks in advance.

there is supposed to be a trim piece there a lot of them broke off so the owners ground off the rivets and painted them

Here's one to add Scott. They've listed the VIN in the ad & have some decent pics to go along with it (including SPID & ASC badging).

That one is a coupe that's been converted. I'm not tracking those. Thanks though.

Thanks Ray. I added the first one to my registry and reached out to the owner for the full VIN of the second one.

Re: Looking for 1987 Convertibles with VIN 3
I'm not sure if you have my '87 sport coupe convertible Logged, but here it is, the last 8 are HN149581, it is dark Red met, with the black custom interior, gray accents, LG4/ 700R4 it has all the options on it, except it didn't have the guage package.. I bought it in 1998, it was a solid Tennessee car. with 107k, I had it re-painted the original color in 1999 and had the interior re-done the following year, the drivetrain and the convertible top are original and now has 121k on it. I have the MSO for it as well as the sales invoice. It was bought new at Capital Chevrolet in Nashville on 4-25-87 by a women who bought it for her daughter as a high school graduation present. If you want me to take a pic of the spid label I can do that this spring when it comes out of storage

Thanks Chris. Can I get the check digit from you? I know I can figure it out, but I'm being lazy. I added it to my list as I didn't have it. I thought you gave it to me years ago.

Re: Looking for 1987 Convertibles with VIN 3
Guys, I'm building a database of all 1987 convertibles. If you know of one and can get me details, it would be greatly appreciated. The details I'm looking for are:
VIN
Exterior Color
Interior color
fabric or leather
manual or auto
any stripe color
If a Z28 or LT, what color are the GFX or bottom of the car
roof color
None of this information will be published online or in magazines/books. My research is only for determining the rough number of Z28 verts since most were IROC-Zs. By my current count, the ratio is 5:1, but I've been focusing on looking for Z28s and haven't grabbed as many IROC-Zs as I should have. This research will be for the future documentation purposes only. It would be nice to know how many 5 speed Z28 verts were built, how many 5 speed IROC-Z verts, etc. Thanks for any help.

Have you accumulated enough data to share at this point?

Jason, do what you want with the car. The limited production of the '87 convertible hasn't bumped the prices into the stratosphere, so I say to do what you want. I'm seeing this trend with the Fox Body Mustangs as well, that the coupes are bringing higher prices than verts. Plus, with the interior gone and the original engine missing, I'd say this car has more value being modified. Good luck.

I don't have that one because that's one of the aftermarket conversions done by ASC. That car is a VIN 2, coupe.

The special edition coupe conversions all have the dash plaque with the special edition build number.

Can you tell me, by estimate I guess, how many of the 744 produced 1987 Camaro Z28 Iroc-Z Convertibles were equipped with the LB9 305 / Manual gearbox / and G92 Borg-Warner rear axle?

Thanks, Ray. I added that last one to my list. I wish GM would just provide us the details. It wouldn't be difficult for them to search 1987 for all 1G1FP3 VINs and then break down how many of those had Z28 only versus Z28 and B4Z.
