Check out this new T-shirt
I went to a car show today in Orlando, The 2nd Annual Sunshine State Camaro Rally. The majority of the cars are 5th gens and there are a few 3rd gens today and hopefully more tomorrow (Saturday). I was working dent guy detail when I saw a GM Licensed Products trailer selling t-shirts, hats, jackets, etc. I decided to see if they had any 3rd gen stuff, because last year, they didn't.
This year, they had a cool shirt with a 3rd gen on it, so I had to have it. The shirt manufacturer is Laid Back USA. I thought it was kinda coincidental that the shirt color matched my car until I got a closer look. That's when I realized that my car was used for the 3rd gen in the photo!!!! How cool is that!!! Look at the orientation of the front and rear rims, the rear window louvers and the bright reflection on the front ground effects. I even looked at the seat belts looking for differences, but there aren't any. Woohoo, I now have my car on Official GM Licensed products!

That's cool! Couldn't have chosen a better thirdgen to represent! I'd be a little miffed about them using it without permission though.

That's pretty cool. I'd at least ask them to certify that a picture of your car was used and then frame the certification and the picture and maybe even a shirt. That would look killer in your man cave!

I did reach out to them today. I haven't heard back from them yet as the "artist" is out today. I think it's cool that they used my car from the thousands of pictures found on the Internet. They need something of a model to use, but it was easiest to know it was mine because of the louvers. Without that, any stock looking IROC-Z would fit the bill. Once I saw the louvers, I took a closer look and realized that the image they used is the same one I used to make a poster last year. You can see it in the pic.

Re: Check out this new T-shirt
I have no interest in filing a law suit for use of my property without permission. That's the problem we have today. Too many people believe they are entitled to some major return for minimal investment. To me, I look at the fact that my car was used, as an honor, that it was selected out of the many thousands of pictures available from GM and the Internet. If I were to sue them, then nobody else would be able to experience the excitement I had when I saw my car on a fully licensed and readily available item. Frivolous lawsuits not only hurt other people, but it hurts the hobby!!! By the way, I have now given them permission to use whatever photos of my car they want! It's not like they took a picture of me and published it in a negative way that impacts my character or depicts me as anything other than I am.
I spoke with them yesterday and told them that I found the shirt and bought one. Their artist informed me that they had thousands of pictures to choose from and thought that this particular picture fit the bill of what they were looking for. They appear to be a great company and I will be buying more items from them. The shirt is very comfortable.

My friend and I cruise to car shows together. He has a 2011 Caramo RS SS, and I have the 92 Foxbody.
I told him it would be funny if he wore a Mustang T-Shirt and I wore a Camaro one to the show...lol
Cool shirt BTW

Re: Check out this new T-shirt
I agree with Richboll, get them to at least certify that your picture was used, no need to sue as you have stated, but just having that certifiable "proof" is good enough, great picture by the way !!!

Re: Check out this new T-shirt
What does "certifying" that they used my picture do? They already acknowledged that they used it and stated they had access to thousands of pictures and decided that my picture was exactly the look they were going for. I'm not sure what else I can expect. I'm just happy that my car was selected to be used on the shirt.

Re: Check out this new T-shirt
A certification can be something as simple as a company letterhead with acknowledgement of using a picture of your car for their T-shirt No. XXXX with maybe a picture of the shirt. The letter could possibly be signed by the artist. That's all. Just like any other kind of collectible that's been authenticated. Or even some original artwork or maybe a shirt signed by the artist.
And you're right. It's just cool that your ride was selected.

I'm glad that your happy that they acknowledged it !!!

Personally, I would have been happier that they gave me something "official" certifying that it was my car that was in their artwork/design/expression !!
Like what Richboll said in post # 26 !!
I guess I'm just a little bit harder to please !!

Re: Check out this new T-shirt
No offense guys but tshirts are not really collectible when they just have pictures of cars screen printed on them. They are not limited run shirts available only via some special event. The artists signature won't change the shirt any since the artist isn't Picasso or some other famous artist. I don't know guys. I don't see the point in making a big deal with the company about this. If the louvers weren't on the car, would I have even known it was my car? It looks like a typical IROC-Z at that point. I was only able to discern it's origin because of the louvers and then I dug deeper.

Re: Check out this new T-shirt
Your car...your call. Just saying that this is something unique so it'd be great to have something unique to commemorate it. Yes, it may only be a T-shirt but it's kind of like getting it into a magazine. I'm sure that it will never happen to the majority of us. Enjoy it. That said, Congrats, they couldn't have picked a nicer car to represent 3rd Gens!
(Not another word from me on the subject other than I'll be ordering one!)

I just had to pull over and take a pic. I don't think I like it as much as Scott's IROC-Z
