Rare Pontiac delco deck from the 80s?

From what I understand this radio was an additional $500 from factory.

I believe that's RPO UT4 and in 1985 the mfr's suggested retail price was $519

IIRC, that radio was standard with digital dash cars...have never seen it in a car that didn't have a digital dash, but not sure if it could be ordered separately.

Almost all of the digital dash cars I have seen have a similar radio but with dials on the left rather then buttons.

Re: Rare Pontiac delco deck from the 80s?

My digital dash has that exact same radio.

I have 2 of them because I bought one from a member here with a jack for my iphone.

I have some cheap pioneer speakers from Walmart and when turned up it looses base unless you screw with the EQ all the time.

I am pretty sure my speakers do not match it and they will be changed soon.

Sorry but my dash was apart for another reason when I took this pic. Plus the car is a mess. LOL

If I keep this radio I would like to add the jack as well. Is the process the same with these decks as the standard delco cassette deck?

I don't know. I bought it from a guy on this forum already completed.

Also it works with any mp3 player. I said iPhone because that's what I use but my son has used his MP3 player on it as well.

Re: Rare Pontiac delco deck from the 80s?

The 1985 and 1986 order sheets show UT4 was optional and there is no notes about any digital cluster requirement. Also, the digital cluster does not show any specific radio being included but only shows the digital HVAC controller as included.

Although this is a bad picture, this is an SPID from a 1985 Trans Am. You can see the UT4 radio and the U21 (analog cluster):

Here's the interior of the car, which matches the UT4 radio and analog cluster:

I believe one of our staff members, Vader, also has a UT4 radio with the analog cluster in his T/A.

If memory serves me right, i thought the mid 80s GMC big vans had those radios. I remember seeing a UT4 touch button radio in like one of those huge vanduras like 3500 or 4500. Could have been in the regular 1500 too, but i was taking this old van apart and saw this radio in it, but i just never thought anything of it at the time before we scrapped it.

According to the Pontiac guides, this radio was standard on the 6000 STE and Available on All models except 1000, Grand Prix, Bonneville and Parisienne for the Pontiac side.
