Re: Hmmmm...
A few things I noticed this round_
Why is the coolant in the recovery tank BLUE???
Where is the data plate that goes on the radiator core support?

Re: Hmmmm...
The small and thin plate appears to be on the passenger side of the radiator support. I've seen them there or in the center.

Re: Hmmmm...
Is this not the data plate being asked about?

I've seen the data plate on the center or the passenger side. My Notchback has it on the passenger side - like this car - and I have the original fenders and hood with the GM VIN stickers so I doubt mine was altered either.

Re: Hmmmm...
I had a friend ask if it they can prove it is a real GTA. Here is there response:
Hello and thank you for your interest. We bought this car to be a real GTA however there have been some questions so we are selling it as a 87 Trans Am with T tops we cannot tell if it is real or not. We did do a carfax and it is a real 16k car.
Maybe im wrong about that data plate..need to check my car.

Re: Hmmmm...
What date is your GTA Notchback? My GTA Notchback was built in January 1988 and it's on the passenger side support. My pictures of other Firebirds show a mixture of some in the center while others are on the passenger side and it appears it might have something to do with a possible change in the production year.
One thing to note is that older ThirdGens, prior to having the SPID sticker, had a larger data plate that contained some of the RPO codes in the center radiator support so that space was previously used.

Re: Hmmmm...
It might be worth bidding on now. It just bothers me that they state the engine has been changed. Maybe the car has 16k miles on it but it sure makes the entire driveline suspect. Here's a link to their website where the car is still listed as a GTA for $18k. You have to scroll through the inventory and currently it's on page 2

That said, it's still overall a nice looking car.

Re: Hmmmm...
Richboll,
Seeing that they purchased the car, and have no knowledge of how the car came to be I can definitively see that... When I did my conversion, I took my stock LG4, Removed everything from my car and then transplanted the TPI stuff from the TPI car, I even took the entire Dash and installed it into my car so it was "right" I kept the odometer tho...
I actually purchased another TPI car so I would remember where things go... I removed all of the wire loom one piece at a time, and checked all of the wiring and put on new loom so it looked like new...
This car just looks like a hacked up mess when you look under the hood... It would take some work to get it to "look" right however.

Re: Hmmmm...
I'm sure that if you could get it for a decent price, it would then be worthwhile to get it "right".
Tribute, clone or whatever, It's still a good looking car.
While it is still on their website listed as a GTA for $18k, on ebay it's currently around $4,000 with no reserve and 2 more days to go.
That might be a good deal.

Re: Hmmmm...
If you want something to just use, it might not be a bad deal.. but you'll always have to deal with selling it as a pieced together clone when you sell it down the road. Plus there is no history on where the motor came from, my gut says that the car it was pulled from prob had more than 16k miles. I'd rather just save and buy a legit one, just my $0.02
