I found an RPO code that stands for option package 4. does anyone know what exactly came in this option or any more information on it? my car is an 89 RS
1SD is preferred equipment group 3. It cost $2,014 and was pretty much a fully loaded car.

Scott, I noticed PE group 3 includes "halogen low and high beam" , what was the base headlight?
Non halogen. Halogen was new in the 80's and was a marketing detail for better lighting. Standard headlights were the norm. With everyone so used to the term Halogen these days, most people have probably replaced their standard lights with them and never knew there was a lesser lighting option.

Thanks! I remembered all my cars in the 80s had halogen sealed beams, guess I just assumed halogen had been around longer than that. Non halogen third gen lights must have really sucked!
from my experience, the non halogens were indeed low emitted lighting systems. Halogens were a "reflected" upgrade as the beam projection from the inside element was more intense and had a reflector to bouce back the light from the rear of the shell of the housing and back thur the glass making the viewing area more bright on the roads at night.
However, there are better sources now, and not those annoying intense high energy discharge designs....(in some states they're illegal)....
I end up buying from halogen, the "true view" design which the light was much more softer illumination but the distance of view was greater. I recommend doing this to any of our thirdgens for better vision and futher clarity. It's still a bit pricy but worth the price. Thinking they cost around 21 or 22 bucks each...haven't bought them in awhile...
