decal delete in 86?
Hey guys my car is a 1986 trans am and it has know decals on it whatsoever. no little firebird logo no trans am print. i have confirmend through the vin that it is a trans am and it says it on the dash but im curious about no decals. maybe it had been repainted idk but just wondering if anyone might know if there was a decal delete option?
Re: decal delete in 86?
The Firebird logo on the front bumper, the fade-dot-stripe, and the Trans Am script was a factory item installed at the factory. But you can order those items today as an accessory or replacement.
Do you have the fade-dot-stripe? Do you have the RPO codes on the SPID in the center console lid?

All 86's have the perimeter stripe in various colors...all are silver or gold fade on top with red, yellow, blue or black as the accent color if I remember right.
In 87, the perimeter stripe was no longer available. The screaming chicken big hood bird stopped after 87.

Pretty sure the
was an over-the-counter "free" owner-installed accessory.
decal delete option
Re: decal delete in 86?
Yup, your reference went over me.
But there was (factory) delete options available on the ThirdGen line with some decal delete options. The question is if this was one of those. I'm inclined to think the obvious answer that this was a prior paint/body work. But the nose bird was included with the stripe kit D88 and so if the SPID shows D88, that answers some questions with little doubt.

Re: decal delete in 86?
Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm a bit confused as to why you posted the question? Obviously there are no decals on your car. Regardless of whether the previous owner took them off or not, it doesn't change the fact that they aren't there now. You just have to decide, do you want them on or not and if so, install them.
If your looking to "restore" the car to factory, and lets say the first owner did order the car without decals it won't matter with the car value if you put them on or not (as long as you put period appropriate decals on). You will never find out if this was what happened or if they were removed unless you find out who the first owner was and ask. So, you just need to decide if you want them or not.

Re: decal delete in 86?
According to the sales brochure for 86,the lower accent with stripping was standard on all 3 models, but according to the parts book,if you got the lower strip(D88),the sm. bird was on the fascia and if you didn't have the lower strip the sm bird went on the hood,so with that said, their had to be a lower strip delete.

Re: decal delete in 86?
Yeah there is nothing on my car. i checked the inside of the center console and the D88 is there. I was just curious if my car has original paint or not. And why i had no emblems like everyone else. my paint is faded to like a natural matte silver. there is still some clear on the sides but it looks pretty cool. maybe it was repainted i dont know. Thnaks for the insight guys!

Re: decal delete in 86?
I love badgeless firebirds. Especially black ones. No decals on mine. When I worked in a pontiac dealership in 88 I can recall only one customer who ordered decal delete, it was a black formula and it looked awesome. Decided right then that's how mine was going to be.

Agree! i think i will keep mine the way it is since it is different. and the matte paint only helps it too stand out. 2011 Norwood Gathering

Re: decal delete in 86?
On any ThirdGen T/A? Here's that 1983 T/A that a school had received due to shipping damage with only a few miles. This is, I believe, RPO D53:

I don't recall seeing a real world one on a 1985+ Trans Am myself but I think drawings I've seen indicated it was smaller than the D53 shown above?

Re: decal delete in 86?
1988 Chevrolet Camaro DX3 stripe delete option eliminated IROC-Z decals and stripes altogether.Sport Coupe took on the appearance of the defunct regular Z28 except for: `CAMARO' rather than `Z28' exterior badges; body colored headlight pockets rather than black; and gold or silver wheel center caps rather than black; the regular hood rather than the louvered hood; and the 1985-1987 IROC two tone lower body stripe rather than the four-color Z28 body stripe.
maybe they did the same with the Fire bird?

Re: decal delete in 86?
Problem is it will look like the base Firebird with the TA nose from pre 1991. Wasn't that an option on the base Firebird where you could get the TA nose with foglights?
