Just for fun. How rare could my 87 Vert be?
I've been wondering just how rare my 1987 Convertible IROC could be. I will preface this thread by saying that I know my assessment is just speculation and is probably NOT accurate but it is fun to speculate that this care could be this rare. Here's how I calculated it.
1. There were 137,716 cars made in 1987
2. 20,781 were black, meaning 15.15% were black
3. 744 were Z28/IROC convertibles
4. That means 113 convertibles should have been black
5. Of the 137,716 only 22,607 had 5 speed (16.4%)
6. That means of 113 of the black convertibles 18.5 had 5 speed
7. of the 137,716 cars, 2324 had medium grey interior (16.8%)
8. So.... of the 18.5 black 5 speed convertibles that means...... 3 of them would have had medium grey interior. And how many of those 3 were cloth? Mine is leather! Do I have the only 87 Black convertible with 305/5 speed and grey leather? Nope. I have seen at least one other on this site. But I have seen just that one. Anybody know of any others?
OK OK I know some of you will dispute how a calculated this. I assume that black was more popular on the convertibles than 15% and if you shuffle the order of which option is calculated first you will wind up with slightly different numbers. But in any case, it is clear to me there was probably less than 25 of these cars made and more likely something more like a dozen. So how many of those are left?

There's a flaw in your math. From the beginning you're assuming that the color distribution was the same between the hardtops and the convertibles and I doubt that it was (either there were more black ones or less).
Assuming your car is all original and hasn't been repainted you could say that is rare by everything else you've stated though. being 1 of 744 alone puts it in that category I think.
