Re: 1985 Yellow Iroc 91k miles all original(mini-restoration)
Thanks guys....
Anyone have some touchup paint for a 1985 yellow Iroc?I have a show coming up and I want to bring this. I won't have time for any paint work though.
Scorpner, if you find any 10 ohm factory speakers with teh factory connecter I may still be interested in if the price is right.

I have sent the radio off for repair and an aux input upgrade. Pretty excited about that.
I also installed some new parking lights on the front and touched up TONS of chips and such. The front end difference of this car is amazing. It is surely the most changed part(looks wise) that has happened to it since I got it. Some of these pictures are already in here, but I love the transformation of the front end
When I got it. Grill paint bad, tons of scratches, no fog lights, foggy parking lights
Fog lights installed and grill painted black
CAMARO letters painted gold
Front bumper paint touched up
New parking lights=front end complete!!!! (was dark outside. Sorry for the poor color in the picture

The fresh parking lights make a world of difference don't they?

The middle of the front ground effect, right under the license plate; that crease looks great. You say "touched up". Care to explain more? My car is a little scuffed up there, too, and I would like to give it the same treatment. Whatever you did to yours, I cant see there was ever an issue there. Good job!

I have the collapsible tire with inflator in mine. Who know if it'll work after all these years and who knows if the tire stays good withe it folded over like it is when deflated?

I would surely not trust that tire for a spare! I'd rather just tow it home!
As for the nose, thanks! In person it doesn't look PERFECT, but from 5 feet or so it looks great. I just used touch up paint.
My process was simple.....
-Good wash and scrub the front spoiler making sure its clean
-rubbing compound making sure all the contaminants are off of the nose
-I then bought a bottle of touch-up paint from the local paint store, using my original paint code
-start painting the nose with the included brush. Usually two coats so that the coats don't have to be too thick
-After it dries I lightly compound it to take off the rough edges
-wax
Now I have a 5 footer

Put my yellow wheels on because the tires are in great shape, with perfect center caps and painted my lugnuts black. I really like it like this!
I also got my radio refurbished and added an aux inpt. I'll get a pic of that this weekend.
Cleaned and ready for Autofair this weekend!

The other one is my 86 Ive had since 1996.
It has no engine/tranny in it and I took too much apart to return it to all original. The interior is all new, along with the rear.
I'm thinking a decent sbc or 5.3 in the future. I just can't let it go!!!

Re: 1985 Yellow Iroc 91k miles all original(mini-restoration)
Got the old yellow 85 out for a few more fixes this weekend.
First I swapped out the leaky(found out it was on the gasket on the water pump, but went ahead and replaced it anyway.
All hoses are date coded 84, and have the original hose clamps, so I thought that was pretty cool!
Next I had the drivers seat repaired where it had a small tear on the drivers side bolster. the material is slightly thicker(more nap) than the original, but the color is GREAT and the way he used foam to shape it back like new was spectacular, so I can't complain. I now have a near mint conteur interior
I have never taken the time to really "fix" floppy air vents, but with everything else working right in my interior, I felt it was a logical next step. I pulled every vent out and simply added a piece of velcro on the side of each one. It is a PERFECT fix and it looked like there used to be a half moon shaped piece of fabric on there from the factory that probably originally did the same thing. It has just the right amount of "tension"
Straight vents, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Lastly I washed it up and we took a trip to our favorite ice cream shop again.
Here is the wife and 8 year old daughter riding shotgun on the way

The vents originally had a half moon shape foam. The foam deteriorates leaving only the backing. BTW, you should clean the vents before you put them back in. Makes a killer visual improvement.

The car is looking great man. Its amazing how virtually all of the interior rattles go away when you add velcro to the vents.
Probably one of the best improvements Ive done to my car.

Re: 1985 Yellow Iroc 91k miles all original(mini-restoration)
Drove it 200 miles to a track rental yesterday. Zero issues! I do have one rattle coming from my rearview mirror of all places. My wife drove it home and thankfully she loves it as much as I do.
I did run a 15.7 1/4. hahaha. I guess that's not too bad for an all-original 30 year old car/

Well, wanting to get some nice mats for it as the ones in there leave a lot to be desired....
throw me options, guys.
Lloyds, factory style or what?
I hate Lloyds does not have an Iroc font on their page!

Re: 1985 Yellow Iroc 91k miles all original(mini-restoration)
Pulled of the catalytic converter and it was majorly clogged and broken apart. To save originality for now, I simply hollowed it and bolted it back up. Only had to fix one bolt that I broke!. It sounds a little more throaty now for sure! The best thing is it doesn't rattle anymore!
I also topped off the oil, cleaned it up a little, and topped off the AC(was just slightly low). I am driving it to Tennessee for the Rod Run next weekend, so want to make sure she is good to go!

Re: 1985 Yellow Iroc 91k miles all original(mini-restoration)
Wanted to add in a few updates on this car as it has OBVIOUSLY been a long time.
I did replace all of the valve stem seals. It does not smoke at ALL anymore. Was a 100% improvement.
Note the factory VIN etched glass. Every window has the VIN # on it!
My GF and I spent way too much time stripping the clear from the factory gold wheels. We then sanded the silver part(leaving very fine sand marks) and had a friend clear them for us. Luckily the gold underneath was in VERY good shape. After getting the metal valve stems, new center-cap emblems, and a set of fresh 245/50's the new wheel/tire package is GREAT. Love the original look on there. Also, note that the original lugnuts are on there as well, but do need some touch up work.
It's hard to see here, but also installed fresh door window molding while I had the doors apart. This made a large visual difference.
Bought a set of color matched OEM style mats that really help the interior go to the next level!
Not pictured are new window buttons and lock/unlock buttons. I also took apart the drivers door to fix the weird window issue I had. Come to find out the window stop was broken. I found the other piece of it back in the door and glued it together....adding some metal support.

Thank you sir.
Seeing your new purchase has pushed me to throw this one up for sale too! I won't be disappointed if I don't sell, but looking for a 5-speed car if this one goes (or a bigger garage to house my other Iroc I am going to start a LS3 turbo build very soon with...)
