History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
I picked up a 1991 rs Convertiable the other day with only 33,083 miles on it everything stock. My very first car was a 1991 camaro and going through more camaros, corvettes, challenger and many other cars I'm back to where I started
I couldn't figure out why there was no ac in my car and it didn't look it was removed after the fact as it was very neat with no wires or any trace anywhere apparently I'm one of 103 from the factory with no ac.
Keep in mind that rare does not equal desirable. Also keep in mind that given some of today's cars produce over 700HP while still having factory a/c, some are not going to look at a car like this as being desirable.
It is generally performance options and combinations that make a care more desirable.

I'm glad he took the time to post pics and share his SPID because I find the car very interesting. But it's a wonder we have any members here at all. The guy posted pics of his very nice ride and (basically) his entire SPID, mentions his car is rare (which it is) but says nothing about the value of the car. Then we have you (the site admin!) chime in to "remind" the owner that the car is not necessarily desirable based on it's rarity. What was the motive behind that? Rare is objective whereas desirable is subjective, how can you be sure that someone else won't find this car desirable (it's only got 33k miles on it)?
NOBODY does more to perpetuate the undesirable status of third gens like some of the "enthusiasts" on TGO.

I didn't say this car wasn't desirable at all or that the car is some piece of junk. All I said is to keep in mind rare does not equal desirable and a car without A/C won't be desirable to some. I hardly think that was an inappropriate fact to note based on both the title of this thread and post making this more about a car being rare for not having A/C and less about it's condition. That motive is based on the fact we have seen so many come into the History/Originality section and confuse rare as being desirable.
You want to address my comments, noting that I'm a site admin, when your last sentence confirms that you know very well if I didn't say it "nicely" that someone else would have.
This car's value is its mileage, convertible, and originality. But the originality point won't remain when you consider that the O/P is going to take out the original drivetrain and other things on a 33K car. I personally don't mind that the O/P is going to do this, but it makes some of this a moot point because the "rare" no a/c option is going to be less relevant when the car isn't original.
z28wiz has been a member of TGO since 1999 but only has 51 posts. There's nothing wrong with that, however, many new members come to TGO with a car that has a limited option or they think that's it's a super valuable car because of the lack of options. I'm not saying that z28wiz had this intention. JT was just letting him know that rare does not always mean valuable, just in case that was his intent. I agree with JT that the value in this car is the low miles, convertible and originality.
This car is basically worthless to me living in Florida. It's too hot to drive with the top down and no AC would make it unbearable to drive. If I still lived in Minnesota, then it would be perfect. I ran with the tops out and AC off everywhere I went up there.
Also to put into perspective...My 4x4 truck means very little in Florida, but carries large value in Minnesota. That's the point JT was trying to make. A non-AC car has a limited buyer base, which limits the value. If z28wiz intends on keeping the car, then who cares?
Yes I have been a member since 1999 when I bought my very first car when I was 19 a 1991 Camaro RS tbi. Since then I have had many cars 2001 Camaro SS, vettes, and a challenger. I have since come back to square one with 1991 Camaro RS again. Fyi I did have a ton more posts, but years ago when the forum server changed I believe some of us lost our post count.
Anyways regarding the originality claim, I was just stating it seemed rare to me. And yes I have no intention in keeping it stock. I don't plan on selling it anytime soon this will my toy weekend cruiser. The body is completely straight and so is the interior and everything else.
[QUOTE=eseibel67;5919741]Perfect candidate for an engine upgrade:
Low miles
Clean
Convertible
305 TBI
Manual trans setup
No A/C
Perfect!
"I picked up a 1991 rs Convertiable the other day with only 33,083 miles on it everything stock."
I could care less what people do to their cars. But, I can't for the life of me figure out why someone would mess with a car so original and stock being the shape that it is in. IDK, JMO. Had to ask.

Apparently you do care to make the comment at the end, lol. You contradicted yourself.
Cool car there Wiz - amazing how much space you have without all that A/C plumbing in there huh?
Keep us posted on the build.
Yes lots of room in the engine bay without the a/c. So far I have the sub frame connectors welded in, new fuel pump, sway bars, lower control arms, and 3.73 gears in the rear with a posi unit.
Hopefully in the next week ill pull the motor and tranny out. I have the crate motor all ready to drop in. Minus a few odds and ends like the coolant bypass on the vortec manifold. Still trying to figure out what do there. Either drill the thermostat like some do or run an actual bypass.
Still a cool car,I wouldn't touch a thing. It is what it is. I do agree with the down playing of the rarity of the car. People are using the same standards as the previous generations in the past. I wouldn't cut the car up at all,but its his car and he can do as he pleases. Just because it's a third gen, folks are already saying ....eh....third gen............think about it.............my two cents.....BILL
Really a nice car. Probably a special order, common back then to get the manual tranny, and the AC was a $1000 option. Your original 5 speed trans and parts are probably worth some money too.
