Yes, get 4-5 zip ties and secure it to the brake lines down there, I had the same issue, and after doing this it solved the problem, the cable is flexing while going down the road.
When you work on the crossfire let me know, it probably needs a balance and new gaskets, if you haven't done it already.

Always something more lmao

When you sit at idle and rev it you don't hear it right? But pulling a hill or accelerating you hear it? Youtube ford 5.0 explorer V8 exhaust clicking and tell me if it sounds like that. Most likely the manifold is leaking on the drivers side. If memory serves me right GM didn't put gaskets on these new.

The video definitely confirms it for me.

Yep check the air tubes first, they tend to rust out, if you decide to put gaskets on, just use lots of penetrating oil, let it sit for hours, its not a bad job, since you don't have to do much other than back the bolts out 1/4 of an inch.

So ran into a slight snag. Front bolts on DS are blocked - a bracket supporting the PS pump block the nuts that secure the manifold to the block.
The others came loose easy and the one next to the firewall was finger loose - old gasket in there was sticking out and looks done. My problem child lol!
Really hoping I don't have to move that pump... thoughts?

You don't have to remove the pump, just the bolt that is down there its a 9/16 to the adjustment bracket. If memory serves me right, the bracket can be worked out.
It is interesting there is a gasket in there, as the car didn't come with them from the factory. But anyway, new gaskets will make the noise go away. Just make sure you clean the bolts and use some grease on the end of them, if any look like they are rusted and weak replace them with a grade 8, it is no fun to break one off in the block

I figure someone did these between factory and me buying the car. They really are fried, down to metal only lol

Re: New Purchase! 1983 Pontiac Trans Am Daytona Pace Car
So, I never did post an update on my exhaust gasket adventure! Lol
It worked out in my favor. The new manifold gaskets on the DS fixed the issue, no problem now. The Speedo works, still a tad jumpy, but functioning and logging miles. No CEL at all, uneventfully got put up for the winter end of October.
But soon enough, spring shall come - and so will more work LOL!
Radiator, T-stat, and coolant are up next lol. Oil change too, thinking the Mobil 1 Annual oil is a good candidate since I don't log anywhere close to its rated mileage - thoughts?
Trans looks like it pissed fluid all over the floor, thinking pan seal or plug gave - again, thoughts?
Jeez, couple months till warm weather in Michigan, and already got a list of stuff to do lol.

Re: New Purchase! 1983 Pontiac Trans Am Daytona Pace Car
Well, got my baby up and running last weekend. Fought me a bit, but she's purring after her hibernation. Topped up the transmission, gave her a 5w30 max life oil change, and to boogie-ing down the road.
.... and of course started making purchases for projects LOL. Got a new turn signal lever - with CC! - and a new washer pump, all A/C Delco. Thanks Amazon lol
Next, getting stuff around to do trim touch-up, like headlight housing, front turn signal, window trims, and door handles. Thought about interior, but the panels are gonna be a pain to color match, I think.
Did this car have the door handle (Fuel Injected) decals? I think they seem like a good fit, but is it accurate? Also, interior switch decals - ideas on sourcing?
This is gonna be a fun summer - see you at F-Body meet-up in June DYNO-DAVE!!

Well, I've been busy! With a week off, you only get so much time for projects, and my baby has been begging for some love! Lol
I've already done washer pump and lever for turn signal/wipers/CC. Put a couple LED lights (194 style) in for floor lights and HVAC panel. Now I'm finishing up on paint details..... Lol
Redid the headlight housing trim and turn signal housings in SEM trim black and now I'm clearing them (pics to follow, in order) AND redid the Pontiac in the center of my taillights. Even repainted the black on the Pontiac for the Headlights. It's looking pretty nice now! Now to waiting on the clear to dry so I can sand it smoother.

Re: New Purchase! 1983 Pontiac Trans Am Daytona Pace Car
OMG I'm exhausted....
So, I finished my cosmetic adventure 1.0 yesterday. Took me 3 days to Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish, AND wax my baby... but its done...
.... Definitely worth it lol.
The rear bumper was night-to-day difference. Really faded/oxidized... it SOAKED up the compound I gave it (3x) plus the polish (2x at least). Now she's smooth as glass.
Wish I did before pics to show the difference, but i didn't think it'd be that stark a difference lol.
If any wants recommend on LED lights for dash, ask! Got a reasonably priced set I'm trying out and so far look good.... shoulda bought red ones - or more in general!
