Thats pretty cool to watch. This is why we were so blown away with the arrival of the 305 HO & 5.7 TPI engines back in the day. Car enthusiasts thought performance was gone forever, but it was very slowly creeping back up to & beyond the 60's to the 700hp monsters that are being produced today. 5 times the HP, but at 5 times the cost of 1982 however.

Yup, the L69 came out in the later part of 83.
Re: Some old comparison videos
When that HO came out, it was a similar jump in power like going from the 1997 LT1 to the 1998 LS1.
The HO, just breathed so much better after 4500rpms. than the years before it. A buddy of mine had an 1984 5 speed HO & that thing gave my 87 5.7 Iroc a run every time. If he would get the jump on me, I would struggle. Mine pulled a little harder, but he would jump a foot ahead on each shift to make up for it. I could catch him on a long road, but street corner to street corner it was a battle. Loved those races.
I still have my 87, his HO is loooong gone. It was sold in roughening condition back in 1992. I'm sure that car has been scrapped decades ago. Was a bad **** car in the day though!
