History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
This is my original 84 vert with 11k on it. I want to have the ground effects sprayed body color and remove the gray decals. My question is will this affect the overall value of the car?
Why not source another set of ground effects to paint, and keep the originals? The '84 rockers are unique to that year, and you'll likely have some difficulty finding a complete set, but seems like this would the the win/win solution. As far as the graphics, they are reproduced by Phoenix. It's your car, but I would leave it alone. I like the silver at the bottom.
I've been looking for a set of ground fx but like you said they are hard to find and the couple I have seen are trashed and not worth putting money into. When I first got the car I liked the silver but now I've seen a couple 83/84 tas with the ground fx painted body color and fell in love with the look. I don't plan on ever selling the car so not really concerned with resale value but don't want to be kicking myself down the road if I have to sell it and lose value because I painted the ground fx

Two is right, spray another set and you will not hurt a thing and can easily go back. You may want to return to the silver so no harm no foul.

If you're lucky they'll peel off easily then. Those look horrible.
The decals have been on the car at least since 1992 so peeling of is not happing. I am trying to fine out if anyone knows of any company or dealer that may have special ordered a few cars with these as a package. Like the copo of the day. i am not removing them as the set this car apart from the rest.
Uh... no. That's just some sticker shop down the street that some guy went to for a super custom job. Spoiler isn't original to the car either so obviously it's been resprayed in the past. I doubt much of that car to be original, sorry rt54chevy.
Actually, that's everything you need to know... just not what you WANTED to know. You have nothing special there aside from a clean 1985 Iroc-Z covered in dated stickers. Deal with it!
You came on here for the expert's opinions. I've been on here over 10 years... what more do you want?
thanks for your expert opinion . on most these sight you can find guys that want to help other car guys .
I no for a fact the car is in original paint. I also knew the wing is not og. it is off a 92. The strips do make the car different from other iroc s . I you look you will see these decals where made for this car as it is one peace on the whole back of the car . the strips are also from the 80's . if you don t have real info just move on.
The real info is that now you're just making yourself look stupid. Maybe best to post your 'one of a kind custom copo Iroc' somewhere else. Maybe the RPO code is DMB ***?
Of course the decals were made for the car... do you think the sticker place would try and put ones made for a Civic on it? lol
Oh look! Summit sells parts for the third gens... those must be factory dealer installed parts too, right? Because they're custom made for the car?
Definitely just some one-off or aftermarket decals that didn't sell well (as nobody really has seen them).
I'm pretty confident it wasn't a dealer option, limited run, special edition, or some thing to that affect. I still say one-off. Looks neat, so hey, keep it and be unique.

Yea, we kinda hijacked this thread. Sorry Paulie84vert
rt54chevy, if you need more info on your car, please, start a new thread. It's inappropriate to jump into someone else's and change the subject from theirs to yours.
Paulie, I'd say any original paint car has better value than a resprayed car, as a general rule.
rt54chevy, no such thing as a COPO 3rd gen. Those graphics are simply some previous owner's idea. Your car though. Keep them or get rid of them. Personally I'd get rid of them, they are awful.
I'm torn on this subject. I think another question you could ask yourself is if you repaint and re-decal to original specs just to create it back to new again, does this effect value? I don't know the answer to that. If I was out looking for a 3rd Gen to buy, I'd like to find an original paint job in decent condition because I know what I am getting. Rather than someones hack job, that might not show up for a few years. Not sure if new paint would make the car worth to me, even if done correctly. I might be willing to pony up a few extra dollars to cover what prior owner paid, but I rather have it repainted myself, pay the dollars myself, and know with out a doubt it was done correctly. In the grand scheme of things, these cars just are not worth that much on the open market, no matter how you slice it. Not right now anyway. Give or take a few thousand dollars, its not going to effect your value that much. Sell-ability on the other hand, might be impacted. Good luck with your decision, I enjoy seeing factory cars, the historical nature of them, knowing that's what they looked like back in the day is what makes them cool.
I think I'm just going to leave the factory colors. The color scheme is growing on me and the paint is in great shape.....on another note do you guys know if there is any sort of wiring link between the radio and dash lights? Just lost power to both of them. All other lights ie parking, head and tail, foot well, door chime etc work. Haven't dove into it yet but I'm assuming some sort of rodent got into the dash because of the car being stored so long in a barn.
