I am currently detailing my engine bay& undercarriage. As I clean things I am finding more and more that I havevacuum lines that are beginning to show their age.

The car runs fine at the moment, but I should probably start replacing these.Given that, where can I find original GM vacuum lines like the ones I have inthe attached pictures?

I am sure I can find vacuum lines at Autozone or where ever, but I would preferthe correct GM ones with the GM part number on it.

Am I being too picky here? I am a huge Corvette fan too and I know how nuts the"all-original" vette owners can be (I’m one of them). I am not sureif third gen Camaro judges/ collectors are as picky as the corvette guys are.If so, I would like to get the correct parts if I can find them.

...and come up with a way to stamp the markings yourself.

 

I believe you will have to make a way to do your own stampings on new hose. The salvage yard stuff will be in much worse condition than yours. At least you can still read the writing. IMHO, these things really matter and set the car apart form others. I like the attention to detail.

 

Even for a relatively new vehicle you can't get that kind of stuff NOS; and for older ones, if they're not a popular resto project type like a 55-6-7 Chevy or a 60s Vette or something, which our cars aren't really, it's unlikely they'll ever even be repopped.

I know for example on my truck (04) ALOT of the hoses have factory-specific marks; like lines marked on em where they line up with something (the heater hoses have bands where they clip into a loom for example), the word "top" in places, and so on. I don't think there's any way to get that level of detail in a replacement part. Then on top of that there's QC marks, like little pink or yellow markings on things where they lined up.

Getting plain new hose and a set of rubber stamps and some white ink, and duplicating what you've got or what you can find in other cars or old photos as best you can, is probably the best way to go about it. People who do things like that for manufacturers (not necessarily cars) such as for wires, might be another $$option$$.

 

With two plants, 8 engines (?), and 11 years of production, I doubt any of the smaller detail items, like properly printed vacuum hoses, will be reproduced in my lifetime.

 

Hell, it's hard enough to get actual vacuum line from a parts store; you usually end up with rubber fuel hose.
