Does your third GEN have factory Japanese parts!

Have you ever thought of where your parts come from in your third GEN? Is it in Mexico Japan , Singapore,England ,Canada?
It's such a shame the 70s were the last of a true Camaro musclecar
It's such a shame America can't produce a good product for inexpensive price.

Re: Does your third GEN have factory Japanese parts!

there are some Japanese parts in the radio and ECM of my '82 and some interior trim plastic and a couple relays are marked "Canada". '86 up firebird instrument clusters are made in Japan as are some of the 16" crosslace wheels.

Oh man.....dont get me started. Im super passionate about NOT buying a foreign made car. You have no idea. Yes, most of the parts on our domestic cars these days are foreign, as the auto industry as a whole is now a world wide industry and there is not really such a thing as a domestic car anymore. Pisses me off. The entire city of Detroit is STILL a financial mess and not recovered, and American economy is nowhere NEAR what it could be if we would just BUY and MAKE our own stuff. I HATE to see all the foreign cars on our roads with the buyers padding chinese wallets. But then their argument is that those are made here, by American workers. This is true, and it is NOT going to change, but it doesnt mean I have to like it. Makes me sick really. We as the consumers sold ourselves out when we decided to start buying that junk back in the late 60's.

I couldn't agree more. As for buying foreign cars, no matter where they are built, the money still goes back to their corporate headquarters. NAFTA, and GAAT are 2 of the biggest problems. It's pretty sad that my 2014 Silverado is made of parts from all over the world.

Re: Does your third GEN have factory Japanese parts!

My best friend wouldnt talk to me for almost a year after he drove his new Nissan Titan truck over to my house to brag about it. We got into this very discussion and he left thinking that I thought he was unpatriotic... He was right! Doesnt mean I dont love the guy, just means that he is an uninformed buyer contributing to the problem, and being best friends for over 30 years I felt I could tell him like it was! lol

Want to buy TRUE AMERICAN led's, switches, relays and so forth? ASK YOUR PARTS HOUSE IF THEY HAVE THE PART MADE BY NOVITA TECHNOLOGIES.
My wife is the financial controller for Novita. It is 100% American made products for your car. They currently design, market, and produce the lighting for Ford Mustangs among several others and also have a strong aftermarket for allot of older parts. If you go to your lighting and electronics section in just about any large parts house you will see their products, and they proudly display "Made in the USA" with the US flag on the package. For a thirdgen they will have bulbs, flashers, and relays for our cars for sure, but they have a wide variety of products

No, more can be done than just buy one and hope it gets assembled here. Dont buy the jap junk to begin with and maybe we can send a few of their plants packing their bags!

Then, send a message to GM that your tired of them sending your jobs over seas.

America does have a voice, and that voice is heard loudest by the sound of a wallet clapping shut.

Re: Does your third GEN have factory Japanese parts!

When I was in my early twenties I rebuilt turbos, water pumps, and fuel injectors for any diesel engine you can name for a company here in Nashville named Pro-Diesel. We were a Reman company rebuilding OE.
Quality was excellent, work environment top-notch, profitability great, everyone was happy. Until that is, they found it even MORE profitable to send half of our rebuildable parts to mexico to be assembled there instead of at our own plant. You guessed it, jobs lost, tensions rose, and the mexican made quality sucked! I know first hand since the injectors and other parts that I once built were no longer available for me to build, so they gave me a NEW title...Quality Control. Instead of building the damn parts myself, I had to test certain percentages of the ones returning from Mexico. Trust me the quality sucked!

I happened to be looking at some original parts suppliers somewhere. Pretty sure there were Japanese parts. They do make quality stuff.

Re: Does your third GEN have factory Japanese parts!

It's tough to define how "American" a modern car is; according to Cars.com, the most American car in 2015 was a Toyota Camry. It's built in the US and the majority of its parts are sourced in the US.

https://www.cars.com/articles/the-20...1420680649381/

Does anybody know the parts supplier breakdown for the thirdgen? I'd be interested to see where the suppliers were from...

This is my point. There is really no such thing as a domestic car anymore. The parts come from all over the globe. It's a global supply chain.

I buy Made in the USA products when it gets me a superior product. As much as I hate to say it, there are many cases where it won't.

It still blows my mind that some Buck knives aren't made in the USA.

Re: Does your third GEN have factory Japanese parts!

This issue is far more complex than simply moving production here.
Companies need to take care of employees instead of just the board of directors pockets.
Then Consumers don't have to go to walmart or china to buy things that americans could provide themselves.
America is now a toilet. Being flushed by the 0.1%.

The majority of this thread, initial post and responses, are not really third gen related. Sorry guys.
