Anyone else notice the 69 in the garage?
Not a bad looking Iroc, but gotta wonder about the rest of the interior. Everything in the picture can be replaced except the dash pocket, but what about the rear trim panels. Also the shifter looks a little tall... maybe its just the angle.

Appears to be a 5 Speed TPI car, pretty rare in a 'vert. 87, I THOUGHT they made only 700 or so camaro 'verts. This one being TPI & a 5 speed makes it all the more unusual...

G92 package on a 'vert??? Anybody else question this?
No. 1987 was a rather unique year for the convertible. RPO G92 was an option on the convertible Z28 in combination with the IROC-Z option. A couple more notes here:
1) The Z28 convertible (with and without the IROC-Z option) had only two drivetrain combinations available: a) 305 carb (LG4) with automatic (MX0) and b) 305 TPI (LB9) with 5-speed (MM5). You will never see the very common 305 TPI/auto in any 1987 Z28 convertible because it was not produced as it was in the coupe.
2) With the IROC-Z option, RPO G92 was available but only in conjunction with RPO G80 and J65. These were not available with the LG4, so the only way to get G92 was with the 305 TPI/5-speed drivetrain. This bumped "up" the ratio from 3.08 (10-bolt) to 3.45 (9-bolt).

That is a VERY nice car. Is it just me though or does it look like the car has the aftermarket high volume TPI runners, not the SLP runners but the other high flow one's??? Also, since when are factory plug wires red and not black? Just nitpicking since he said all original except battery and tires

We have every right to nitpick because, as you state, the owner says all original except.... Yes, the original plug wires are black. Also, the red replacements are not routed using the factory wire retainers, they are just laying there....

I think it's just the lighting. Mine looks the same.

All I know is, ever since seeing this car, I have lamented not having the $$ to go for it LOL.
Willie, any ideas as to how many IROC verts had this combo? I know your Z was very rare...is this a similar case?

Willie, any ideas as to how many IROC verts had this combo?
Nope, no official records. But I can state that the following list is in order of rarity (most common on top) for 1987 Z28 convertibles:
1) IROC-Z with LG4/Auto
2) IROC-Z with LB9/5-speed
3) Z28 with LG4/Auto
4) Z28 with LB9/5-speed
#2 is the only combo in which RPO G92 was an option.
Let's do some calculations based on official production figures. Looking at total figures (coupe & convertible), there were 38889 IROC-Z out of a total of 53607 Z28's. So 73 percent of all Z28's had the IROC-Z option. Knowing 744 Z28 convertibles were produced, the convertible breakdown becomes:
1 & 2) IROC-Z: 543
3 & 4) Z28: 201
I speculate that these figures are not accurate. I truly believe that more than 543 came with the IROC-Z option simply because this was the first year of the convertible and original consumers of these cars ordered them as top-of-the-line models (i.e. with the IROC-Z option).... but who knows for sure. What I can state is that over the last 12 years, I personally have found over 100 IROC-Z convertibles and only 12 Z28 convertibles.
As for drivetrain production figures, it would be impossible to determine numbers because the LG4/5-speed and LB9/auto were not available in convertibles but readily available on coupes. Too many combinations of which only certain ones available on coupes/convertibles, so this cannot be ratioed accurately. So let's make an assumption and use the following:
115109 automatics out of a total of 137760 Camaros in 1987, or 84 percent:
1) IROC-Z with LG4/Auto: 456
2) IROC-Z with LB9/5-speed: 87
3) Z28 with LG4/Auto: 169
4) Z28 with LB9/5-speed: 32
Again, this assumption cannot be held accurate as transmission production figures are for ALL Camaro models (Sport Coupes and LT's) and the fact that certain drivetrain combos were not offered in the convertible.
So how many had G92? Your guess is as good as mine.
I know your Z was very rare...is this a similar case?
First of all, the 1987 Z28 convertible is much rarer than one equipped with the IROC-Z option. I believe the ratio of these is far less than with coupes for the reason stated above. I have discovered 12 of these cars over the years. What makes mine even rarer is the fact that it is a TPI/5-speed car. Only two of the twelve I know of have this drivetrain.
....why does this vert have a 140-mph speedo?
1987 was a unique year for many parts. The 1987 Z28 convertible with the 305 TPI (and 5-speed as it only came with this transmission) did come with the 145-mph speedo (as is the case with coupes). Mine has it too.

Buyers must think it's over priced or are suspicious of the sellers claims. There aren't any bids with only 7 hours left. I think that car ought to be worth $8,900 if the sellers claims are legit. I'd bid on it, but i recently bought an 87 iroc and am not in a position to own more than one.

What truly will make these cars collectible in the future is the fact that they are designated an anniversary car (20th Anniversary Commemorative Edition to be exact). This anniversary car was never advertised by GM, so it's not a very well known fact, even around Camaro enthusiasts. But give it time and I believe this car will be THE most sought after third gen that is considered "regular" production -- not like the 1LE's and B4C's.

I would agree with that. The more I think about it, the more I would love to have a convertible eventually, rather than a t-top coupe.
If I had the $8,900, I would bid on that car in a hearbeat...thanks for the vert info Willie.
