1989 1le Trans Am

I am looking at a 1989 1LE Trans Am that was raced in the GM Players series...It has been sitting outside for 20 years ....original motor/trans/diff /brakes etc...probably all seized up....rusted floor.....guy wants 3k for it...I think it is only worth buying for parts as restoring it would probably cost 10-15k.....feedback from this forum appreciated ....Thank You

Re: 1989 1le Trans Am

Pics would be good, but if there is a 3rd gen worth restoring, this would be it. $3K (Canadian?) is pocket change for a Player's car, especially if it's all there.

If you decide not to get it, I'm certain someone here would snap it up.

Come on man, I was enjoying a beverage here... Now I have to clean off my screen.

I think most of us around here have got too many projects already. See a lot of good projects go to scrap because no one here has room or time for another.

I wonder how many $3000 cars I’d have stacked up , if I had unlimited space ?

Re: 1989 1le Trans Am

Rust is a deal breaker for me too, not so much on something you want to build into a hot rod, but it's a deal breaker for a nice correct restoration. Just too hard to fix on a car like that because you don't want to see patches and welding everywhere, and repair panels aren't available for rockers etc. It's not valuable as an original car if it's got evidence of a bunch of welding and panel replacement. But that car will have a treasure trove of hard parts that are usable, especially if it has a PBR equipped Dana 44 in the rear. It's worth a little money just to part it out.

Very nice!! You may have got to it b4 it became a parts car.
Looks like some "work" has been done under the hood, my mild ocd says that the heatercore hose is on backwards.

Must be an early '89 build with no N10.

Great find. Bring back one the race cars. There is a FB group with original drivers and car owners. Might luck out and find yours.

Re: 1989 1le Trans Am

BTW ... your VIN shows up as the last one made of the R7U batch. I have the two VIN's of the first two TAs with 1LE that came to Canada (GM engineering cars).

And you also have the correct white crosslaced wheels and correct centre caps.

Re: 1989 1le Trans Am

I'm wondering why the 1989 SPID indicates 19P Black wheels?

Were all Player's cars wheels supposed to be factory painted White in 1989, as they were in previous years?

I know that 11P white wheels were available in 1988, but I thought the only TA wheels colors in 1989 were 16P Silver, 18P Gray, and 19P Black?

To be honest, I didn't look at the codes. I know many of the TA's had white wheels which were odd looking, but correct. Not common to find. He will have to find out who raced it and what paint scheme it had.
