How do i tell if a camaro is a real L69 car

I found an iroc that I believe is an 85. It has a 5 speed and the 5.0 H.O with the dual snorkel intake. The body is shot but it also comes with a good RS 5 speed body and another junk early 80s 5 speed camaro. Wondering how I confirm if it's the real deal and if it's worth swapping everything to a new body. It's been sitting for many years and doesn't run

The eighth digit of the Vin# should be a G.

G for 85. 7 for 83. If it doesn't run, it sounds like you'd be buying a couple junk bodies and a good RS body... Better be really cheap...

Edit to add - Even if it IS an L69 HO car, if you put that engine in something else it's just another bloody 305. About the only thing that makes the L69 "special" is that it was the "hot" 305 in those years. That's not saying much when you have much broader options you can swap into a bare RS body.

I can probably get all 3 for about $500.00. So I'd likely be better off parting out the Iroc and putting a 350 or something in the RS? I wasn't sure because I read there was only 2400 L69 5 speeds made in 85.

Dam, sad that the IROC can't be restored -- another one to cross off the survivor list. Is the body that bad?
