Rearview mirror information

Does anyone have any data on the different rearview mirror options available ? I know there's the standard, auto-dimming, and map light varieties, but were there any others ? Also, in the particular case of rearviews, if you had say a standard mirror, is the pigtail for a maplight version stuffed under the headliner somewhere ? Is the same true for other styles ? Thanks!

I have one of those auto dimming things in my TA. IIRC the wiring goes down the driver side windsheild pillar to under the dash somewheres. That wiring was not in my other cars.

Well I'm pretty sure the mirrors were virtually the same for all thirdgens except for the power mirror that was only available a short while. The years they were lighted, they're all lighted.

From my cars, I can tell you I've had about 4 different mirrors.

83 had a standard mirror, no lighting, with the flip-up flip-down switch on the bottom, with the **** towards the back. It went left/right vs forward/back. No gay tab sticking out the bottom.

87 has a typical mirror, no lighting, with the tab on the bottom.

91 RS has a lighted mirror, dual lights, with switches on the bottom on both sides. And with the tab on the bottom.

The two 91 birds have lighted mirrors, with dual lights, and a smaller light that shines on the radio/console. I believe they only have one switch for the two lights, both come on at the same time. and the tab is on the bottom.

The adjusting mirror is one I haven't encountered yet.

Mostly what led me to this post was seeing the power mirror in a parts list and thinking WTF ? So I got curious as to what else is available. To sum it up, there were a couple variations of a standard-type mirror, a couple variations of a map-light mirror, the auto-dimming one, and the power one, correct ? How exactly did the power one work anyway ? Thanks for the info though !

AFAIK the power mirror is the auto dimming one. It has optical sensors on both sides, a range adjustment (potentiometer for sensitivity) an on/off switch, and of course its big and heavy. I have a spare as well, but the glass in that one isnt the best. It has a servo motor in it that is activated by the sensors and whatever else is in there, and moves when there is bright light from the rear. Seems to work pretty well, especially considering my windows are tinted too.
