History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
Maybe I will get better feedback. 88 Camaro sports coupe. Did some one try to change my car over to an AC car? The heater controls have a AC select on it. But nothing is hooked up right. I've taken the box and fan off. Got the none factory wiring out. One question I have is, what all is there supposed to be. I see a vacuum controlled valve inside the dash. There are 3 cables. 1 controls the heater core door. Another operates the fan door. The 3rd must do the defrost? The vacuum valve looks to be over that. I will have to take the whole dash assembly off to find out if nobody on tgo knows.
ARA was an aftermarket manufacturer of a/c systems. When I worked at a Chevy dealer, we sent MANY an S-10 stripper (4 cyl, 5 speed, no rear bumper, no radio, no a/c) to a local A/C shop to have ARA air added. It was cheaper than ordering the factory system, and gave the dealer an option of having 30 stripper cost-leader pickups on the lot, that could be fixed up if the owner wanted. Stereos, stripes, bumpers, and A/C were all popular upgrades.
Looks like this car started life without A/C, and someone had it added at some point.
Is the Service Part ID (SPID) label still with the car?

On my '88 T/A, A/C is RPO C60 as I understand it.
