History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
So I bought a TTA and the owner gave me all of the original parts he took off, whether they were working are not. I know to keep the big items like the radio, air box, and the intercooler.
What I don't know is if it is worth keeping the parts that were replaced due to age or because they were not functioning correctly. This would include the master cylinder, A/C compressor, alternator, plug wires, fuel pump/filters, old downpipe, exhaust tips, miscellaneous hose stuff, ragged turbo heat shield, etc. Any advice?
It's all worth something. Not like a box of stuff on the shelf in the closet really costs you anything. Realizing you threw away something you need can really be annoying.
I wish the original owner of my car had had the original alternator rebuilt. But he had all his work done at a dealer, so I have a shiny AC Delco alternator...the original is long gone.
Well, I've made space for everything up in the attic. The majority of items are hard parts like wheels, exhaust, turbo, etc. I'll keep the radio up there too until I can find a place for it indoors. At least this has made me clean out the attic.
Keep it all. If you sell it, the next owner might want to put some of those parts back on. The only thing I might dump is the fuel pump. Even the fuel pressure regulators are probably still good.
Yeah, hang on to it. Looks like the plugwires are replacements but they have the metal shields on there. Not sure if those are replacements or originals.
