History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
I had an opportunity to get this car last year, then the seller decided not to sale.... He hit me up today to ask me if I was interested. It does have a repaint, which looks to be quality, but other than that it is an original L69 car, vin# check out etc.... He is asking $6k..... Is that too much for a L69 car in good condition. It does not have any rust from what I recall when I looked at it last year. I need this car about as much as I need a 2nd wife, but it is tempting....just looking for opinions.
You may not recall Charlie, but I asked you about this car last summer, you said the re-paint would be a negative, but that with it being the L69, it would not be out of line on price. Thanks for the reply!

Oh yeah, I remember! I thought I'd seen it before.
I think it sounds like a great price....depending on the quality of the repaint. The paint appears nice in the pics....but pictures can be very deceiving, too. How many miles are on the car? The steering wheel and dash pad look to be nice, so that's a plus. Just make sure that it wasn't a bucket of rust before the repaint. If it's a solid car, I wouldn't be afraid of it.
But, if they put an old ***** in a new dress....it's still an old ***** lol. Look it over.
Another plus is that the car is all there, with all the right parts. It looks like it's been cared for as it's been enjoyed

LOL, thanks for the input. It has right at 100K on it, which I am not really hip on, but it is also 35 years old...... At least it wouldn't depreciate it to drive it with those miles.

Right at 100k is just fine for a car to drive and enjoy. $6 grand doesn't buy much for an IROC. I have seen a million of them that are pretty rough at that price. It's a 5 speed, too, and if I'm not mistaken it is probably a 3.73 rear end? It'd definitely put a smile on your face for the money.
I agree with Dagwood. I don't think you can go wrong with this car at that price. You could drive it and enjoy it for awhile then probably flip it for a profit if you decide to. I don't think you could do the same with a second wife!
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am going to go down and look at it in person tomorrow. He did say it needs a headliner and carpet, other than that, the car is all there, in good condition with # matching drive train.
I looked at the car today, and pulled the trigger. I got the price down as the interior does need work. Headliner, driver seat bolster, visors, all need replaced or repaired. The body/paint are good, wheels are excellent. I put a few more photos below, but I am happy with the deal, and to have a 5 speed L69. Looking forward to working on it.
Looks like a good car for the money, unmolested and most of the parts and pieces are still there. It's optioned pretty nicely too. A little bit of cleanup and some TLC in the interior and it will be a great sunny day driver. L69 Iroc's very cool.

Did some work on the car today. Installed the Radio Delete Plate, and painted the interior panels (before/after photos). Waiting on the headliner, sail panels & sun visors to arrive....
Waxed the car this weekend and took a few pictures in a better setting.....Man, I love this car....even more than I anticipated! No more pics until I get the rest of the interior parts in.....
I grew up in Indy. And in 1983, when I got my 83 L69, I tried to get that exact plate. Rejected! I explained what the designation represented, but... nope. Oh well, Chevy chose it for that very reason anyway.
The OE purists and driveway queen folks around here will start carrying on about the OE headliner board
and upolstry shop repair/replacement route. But since you dont have the board a OE used replacement
let alone finding and shipping and recovering it is gonna be mucho $$$.
About your only reasonable and reasonable solution (like me) is one of those plastic/mouse fur covered replacements.
The OE & garage queen owner mavens around here will bust on you for buying such a POS replacement..
But you really have no choice!
Only one maker (ACME) and several sellers on line.
Sure the fit is sorta lousy but with carefull adjustments it will look just fine.
I bought one a few years back for $150 shipped.
Fits ok Looks ok Much better than a bare roof !
Look around and ask a few of the good folks around here on advise on the best way out for a headliner replacement.

Small world that you are from Indy. The BMV gave me no issue with the plate, maybe I got lucky....

I ordered the headliner/visor/sail panel kit from 1A Auto. We'll see how it looks when it arrives. I hope to be getting it soon, it was ordered the first of June.
The headline you bought a plastic mouse/fur covered one?
Its gonna look nice along with visors and speaker covers when you install it.
My speaker covers were missing so I scrounged up a few at the parts yard.
Check out these pics of the OE covers.
One cardboard backed with metal hooks.
Another was plastic with the hooks moulded in.
I wonder which ones you will get.?
Dont forget to post the maker of your headliner.
It will prob. be drop shipped from mfr. anyway and will tell the maker. original cardboard backed with metal hooks Later year? Plastic backed

I'll update you once I get it as to the maker, and how I like it.
Got the car back from the upholstery shop. I am happy with the outcome, much better than it was... I need to get the headrest snugged up and the seatbelt guides painted.
Car is looking amazing. I have an 84 L69 Z28, very similar car that I got for roughly the same price you got this car for. Very happy how it is coming along for you. I will be starting on the bits in my interior that need fixing next after I get mine back from the painter.
