History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
I've done some research and from what I've gathered they did not make a formula without a spoiler. However, I have a very clean and complete car without one or formula decals.
My title matches my vin and I have also I have checked RPO codes and verified swaybar thickness. The car was originally 5.0l 5 speed but has been recently LS/T-56 magnum swapped. Thanks for reading let me know what you think!
I can't say if there were any made without spoilers but there shouldn't be and I'd be willing to bet yours had one at birth. In my opinion a bird without a wing doesn't fly until it gets one.
The 91/92 Formula/Trans Am/GTA cars all had the aero spoilers but there all prone to cracking and warping over time, the 91/92 spoilers were made out of heavy plastic. The repo spoilers from hawks are fiberglass and way better quality over the OEM GM ones. The original one probably cracked over time and somebody just took it off. There's a bunch of wingless 91-92 cars out there for the above reasons ive mentioned. And the car was more than likely repainted at one point they didnt bother replacing the decals.

Given your car is quite modified, and is nearly 30 years old, that is likely the reason why the car doesn't have the spoiler. But it didn't come from the factory that way.
All 1992 Formulas had the D81 rear spoiler. Since you have RPO codes, you should be able to confirm that D81 is on your list. That tells you the car had the rear spoiler.
All the modifications were done by me and the car doesn't look 30 years old. I definitely over looked the D81 thanks a lot! I definitely like the sleek look but since it was born with one I'll have to start looking.
It isn't cheap doing the wing. Probably why they just filled the holes and painted. Im doing mine and having a shop do it to perfectly match the old one. You can get one, sand it and throw it on. Its going to be spot on. Spot on is costing me. Most don't care. Itll be 1k minimum to get a new one done unless you know a guy or are doing it yourself..
*Edit: a 92 spoiler is lots cheaper. My bad. Should have looked closer.
LS transplants is old to me. They just dont look right where there should be a tpi engine imo.
I will do you one better - when a hood is popped, I expect to see an air cleaner, in the center, with a carburetor underneath it. But I will accept a fuel-injected carb look-alike throttle body.
This (History-Originality) section is best for asking questions about what is and isn't correct, such as the spoiler question on the Formula, as well as similar questions and topics.
Looks good in that picture, but I think from most angles Firebirds seems kind of naked and plain without a real spoiler. I always think of my brother-in-law's comments about spoilers "spoiling" the look of the car, but on Firebirds I think they're essential.
once you taste 350-500 horsepower TO THE WHEELS, same amount of torque and it revs almost 2000 rpm higher than a tpi and gets 50% better gas mileage as well its kind of a no brainer.everything you do to an LS can result in mental power levels,N/A cam swapped junkyard ls engines are pushing 4-500 horsepower, throw on a turbo and a 1000 horsepower isn't out of reach, add a whipple, easy 750+ .hood is closed 99.9% of the time anyway, why not enjoy the car the way they should've been, with some actual B A L L S......
i really never grasped anyone thinking there is anything wrong with an LS swap, unlkess you have a super limited, high option firehawk or T.T.A an LS swap is a hell of a way to put the hurt on some new $75,000+ "ugly a.s.s supposed musclecars like the new mustang, challenger or camaro(ps:they are all ugly as f imo)
