When I was a student at Southern Illinois University in the mid-late '80s, I took a course in Advanced Driver Education. It was meant for law enforcement students mostly. It was taught through the SIUC Safety Center, by an instructor named Dan Shannon. Dan had been a student of Doc's, and many of the maneuvers in our text book came from Doc and the GM Proving Grounds. I actually became a student teacher under Dan, and we instructed other students, police, fire and EMS drivers, as well as executive limousine drivers. Some of the most fun I had at SIUC, and received my cirtificate as an Instructor of Advanced Driver Education. I keep that on my resume to this day.
