History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
I can't answer the questions, but I question if the interior is original on the car you've got listed. The leather certainly looks darker than the other 1992s that I've seen, it doesn't have enough wear (but some) for the 200K miles, the side bolster buttons are different color, and the carpet also looks different. To me, I would suspect it's not original?
Interestingly to me I have a very similar 1992 Trans Am Red/Beige convertible with the LB9 and MM5 that was done late June/July (6/22/92) while your listed one shows 6/4/92. Those are GM dates and not ASC.
Have owned nothing but leather interior 91 and 92 Trans Am and GTA over the decades, it certainly seemed OE leather to me. The stitching was right, the perforations, the fitment, the feel/texture and the thickness of the leather. It's just really dry. It does have the proper wear on the driver's bolster, but one that's been very well taken care of. I can't speak for the carpet, but I know the door cards are OE too, perhaps also not original to the car tho.
I do agree it looks dark. Perhaps the front and rear seats were swapped from another year car that was a different shade and that's why it looks off and not matching. If this happened, it was before he purchased the car in 2014 but certainly possible given the mileage. I also suspect the top has been replaced, although it's for sure a genuine GM OEM top from what I can tell. It has a date code in the lower left which I think reads like E 03 I think but I wasn't sure if that was right. Aside from the LOF stuff there was a bunch of other stuff that could have been a date identifier.
Thanks for pointing all of that out. I think it maybe is a mix-match interior.
I think you're right that it is a bit darker, but this one looks too dark along with other mix-match issues.
I missed that the car has the black top. That is not correct. It would have had the tan top to match the interior and gold wheels as it's required, per the order form. Black was only available on the black interior.
Seats do look to be rather dark. What I see incorrect is the driver side sill plate, which may be what is throwing everything off. Looks to be beechwood or something. 92 Tan is definitely darker(more of a brownish shade). Makes me wonder if my leather Jade car has the right color seats now. Unfortunately they are missing the side pieces to them and I'll likely be searching forever for them.
