I saw that. Pretty crazy. Low mile 91's seem most common, but '90s are far less so.

Re: 6 mile 1990 IROC 1LE camaro found

1990 Camaro production was a shortened run.
  • 1982: 189,735
    1983: 154,381
    1984: 261,591
    1985: 180,018
    1986: 192,219
    1987: 137,760
    1988: 96,275
    1989: 110,739
    1990: 35,000
    1991: 100,838
    1992: 70,007
Total production for 1990 Camaros was cut by more than a third from the previous year to 34,896, though this is not exactly a correct representation of interest in the year. Since IROC stands for International Race of Champions, a race Chevrolet had been sponsoring for years, they were able to use the name. In 1990, Dodge took over sponsorship of the event, and therefore no Camaro IROC models were produced after December 31, 1989. To compensate for this, the 1991 Camaros were introduced early. Though there were not many produced, a simple way to identify a 1990 Camaro is that it is the only model that has the airbag and updated instrument panel, but doesn’t have the scooped side valences that would be introduced the following year. Naturally, then, the 1990 IROCs are the only IROCs with the updated instrument panels.

Wasn't there a bit of a Camaro refresh for 1991 as well, which was brought out early and shortened the 1990 model year?

There was for the Firebird with the new front clip, which is why 1990 Firebird numbers dropped off significantly. I bought my first in February 1990 and did so because the '91s were already shipping and I much preferred the 1990 front end over the '91 version.

Kidding aside, it is sad. Makes me feel less guilty about dailying mine when there’s so many like this one that have barely been driven. My car gets 6 miles a day normally, can’t imagine 6 miles in almost 40 years.

Re: 6 mile 1990 IROC 1LE camaro found

The story says the guy bought the car new and then flatbed it to the basement where it was stored for over 30 years. The guy passed away and his niece sold the car to the new owner. So the original owner never got to drive this car OR enjoy the profits from the sale. I find that incredibly sad.

You never know..

The original owner could have gone down stairs to his car, had a beer and relaxed thinking he was going to, in the future, drive the car when he had time.
That car could have been his escape!!!

Worth every penny spent to him.

Re: 6 mile 1990 IROC 1LE camaro found

If it makes someone happy just to own a car like that and look at it sitting there in the garage, maybe it's worth it to them. Heck, it's not rare for me to go into my garage and just look at my cars.

But I could never have a car and not drive it. Even if it made some sort of financial resale value sense, the temptation would be too great. I've known more than a few people who buy their new cars based on projected resale value. To me, that's just a sad way to live. Rather than buying a car because you really like it, you buy a car hoping that someone else will really like it and will be willing to pay good money for in a few years.
