History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
I'm not sure if this is the correct sub-forum for this, but I found these relics of the past today and they have something to do with our 3rd gens. HOW I found them is a kind of a long story, but the short version is that I found them along a gravel township road, in a ditch, next to a bridge, in the woods.
Goodyear "Eagle M+S" and they are VR rated. Size 245/50/16. The date codes are from either the 43rd week of '88 or '98. I was intrigued by them so I picked them up and took them with me. Not just for my weirdo vintage tire collection, but also because it's now less litter in the woods.
Does anyone remember this model of tire, because I sure as heck don't?. Did anyone here run these on their car in the winter, back in the day?
Those are kind of crazy. I've never seen them before. Odd mix for low profile, VR rating, and aggressive M+S tread.
GoodYear had the bandwidth and money to do some interesting things back in the day. I used to work in an office supply store in our state capital's downtown area, right across the street from the USPS branch, among other federal offices. So there were always lots of state and federal vehicles in the parking lot. One day I noticed a Dodge Diplomat with white walls, but they seemed low profile compared to what you would expect on a passenger version of a Diplomat/5th Avenue. And they had the Eagle GT tread pattern. Upon closer inspection, it was a police car, with certified speedo, bigger sway bars, etc, and they were indeed 215/65/15 Eagle GTs, with a white wall. I doubt they were available for retail sale at the local GoodYear store, but there they were, perhaps made as part of a Govt. contract. I used to autocross on used up 215/65/15s, so they caught my eye. Would have loved to have a set for my old car (not a 3rd gen F-body).
