Firestone Wide Oval INDY 500 VS. BFG G Force sport COMP 2
I am choosing a new set of summer tires for my car. They'll be going on GTA rims and I am going to stick with a 245/50/R16 all the way around.
I've narrowed it down to two tires, based largely on availability and some online reviews. I am looking at either Firestone Wide Oval INDY 500 or BFG G Force sport COMP 2.
Anyone have these tires on your car? What do you think of them on your 3rd gen? Can you post a photo of how they sit on the rim?
Reason I'd like to see a couple photos is because I like a tire that sits our past the rim a bit...I currently have an old pair of Bridgestone Potenza RE950's on the rear, they have a nice "shoulder" and I love the way they sit. Alternatively, I have some Kumho Ecsta AST's on the front and I hate the way they sit, too flat against the rim, if that makes any sense.

I have the bfg's on my 88 and have 2 track days on them. Love the tires they flat out stick once they get warmed up. + very predictable in the turns. Have never ran the Firestone's but the Comp 2's are a newer design also... Just my .02

I've had both over the years on my car, I couldn't complain about either. I've never been in the rain with either of them so I can't tell you how they are in adverse weather. I can tell you I've had the Firehawks hook in really hard and fast corners. The type of corners that are well beyond street safe. Either choice I don't think will let you down.

I have the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 Wide Ovals... what a terrible name for a tire.
Performance - A+
These tires perform great in dry weather as well as the few times the car has seen rain. They handle great, grip well, and don't generate too much road noise.
Appearance - C+
The sidewalls have a bunch of stuff imprinted on them - Indy 500 logos, names, etc. Also, even though they are a 245 tire, they don't have the wider look that the original Good Year Gatorbacks have. The tread is neat, but doesn't make up for the sidewall and the slightly narrower look.
The only reason I went with them is I needed tires and the Good Year Eagle F1 GS-D3s were no longer available. I'd get them again if they're the only choice, but if not, I'd go for something else.

I have experience with both tires. I got a good deal on the Firestones so that is what I have on my car. No compaints good tire for the money one of the better bang for your buck summer tires for sure. I think the BFGs are a little better tire though but cost a little more too.
