Tire direction, importance.?
Tire direction, importance.?
To keep this post short, I'm going to skip how it happened and just get to the issue. On my old set of rims I have two that have tires that are 255 35s and the other two are 245 35s... The problem is the way they are mounted is that the 245s are on the drivers side and the 255s on the other. I don't like that, question is, will it be a problem to run the directional tires backwards? That's what I'll have to do to have the 245s up front and the 255s in the back. I'll have to switch the back drivers with the front passenger side, leaving two tires with backwards tread. Is it better to leave all the tires facing forward, but with the different size tires on opposite sides of the car, or will it be ok to run two tires backwards so I can match the front two tires and the back two? If that makes sense.

Just have the tires swapped from rim to rim to achieve the correct directional pattern, it just doesn't seem right or look right run'n directional tires backward......

Re: Tire direction, importance.?
It could be that a directional tire is not just the tread but what's under it.
The construction could be associated with the steal and nylon in the tire its self.
My tires are non directional and staggered so if I wanted to I could only rotate from side to side but I don't even do that.
Maybe its old school thinking but once a tires belt has broken in spinning in one direction I don't like spinning it in the other.

Getting 4 tires dismounted then remounted and balanced should be $60 at any of the non-chain tire shops. The big-name chains like DiscountTire will cost more, and if the tires are low on tread, the chains won't do it at all.
