Ques on gauge clusters

Would a 1986 V6 Firebird have ever had a full gauge cluster? The '86 that I recently picked up has the idiot light cluster, and I hate not having the volts, oil pres and temp gauges. Just wanted to know before I start searching the boneyards.

I belive they did. You would have to change your Oil & temp sending units, maybe wiring too.

As long as its not a cable driven speedo you can get a guage cluster out of any Firebird up to 92 and it'll bolt right in. As was mentioned you'll need to switch the idiot light switches to guage sending units, they run about $15-30 each at the parts stores.

BTW my 91 3.1 has full instrumentation, chances are the guage cluster from a similar car would work for you. Don't forget to get the guage trim bezel too since it'll be different.

My '84 Firebird has the full gauge cluster, So there is a really good chance that the 86 would have one!

I found an '86 in a boneyard with the full gauges so i'm gonna check that out, hopefully it will work. The electric-driven analog speedo didn't come around until '88, right?

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....
Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
The electric speedo was introduced in the Firebirds in '86. Only htose with the full gauge cluster got them; the 'idiot light' clusters were mechanically driven. Look here to see what you need to do to swap an electrical cluster into your '86 http://www.hioutput.com/tech/speedo.html
Hope this helps...

wow...that's a lot more work than I wanted to put into this car. What if I got a full gauge cluster from a 1985 V6 Firebird? That would have the cable drive, wouldn't it?
