Dude, it depends ALOT on the little things that are hard to find and how many things on the car can be fully reconditioned or need to be replaced. I've seen full GTA resto's go over $10K I mean you can spend $3K, $6K, or even $8K just on the perfect paint and body and not even have touched the interior which could run another $3K!!!!!

What kind of a resto are you talking about doing?? A cosmetic one, Mechanical/Cosmetic, or a full out concourse resto???

I for one am more than willing to spend more than $20K if need be in about 10 years to bring my car to concourse condition, I plan on cashing out all of my stocks and retirement that I am earning with my current job or maybe a second morgage, I'm THAT serious though I don't know if your're willing to make that commitment to your car like I am

I have pondered this one plenty of times...and I always end up feeling sick.

Here is a good example I saw on a TV show...an early ElCamino "To restore this car, you should expect to pay around 70,000" To buy the car after it was restored you would pay 20,000"

To throw out a # I would expect to have about 20,000+ in my 84 if/when it gets restored (I want it to be PERFECT) concourse resto

Maybe you should contact some resto shops, because the car is a late model, it would certainly be cheaper than an old ElCamino.

How much...the sky is the limit...how much do you want to spend?

Best of luck

I had gone to a local body shop looking to do a restoration paint job. and I was quoted 5 grand (canadian), though that was just a rough quote.. I have yet to get an estimate on it all.. I didn't think it was to bad.. Something to save up for anyways.

Or, you could drop in the neighborhood of $10,000 on a nice all original (read "more valuable than restored") thirdgen and be much further ahead of the game.

I'm doing my best right now to get out of my projects, they just cost too much money and take too much time. I'm selling my convertible (all original, 50,000 miles) for about $10,000 and cutting my V6 loose for next to nothing so I can focus on my L98 cars.

Just thought I'd share this with everyone since Drew mentioned the neighborhood of $10,000. I am the guy who just sold the 2,500 original mile '85 IROC on ebay, there's a post on this forum about it. I set the reserve at $13,500, and thought I'd have trouble finding a buyer. The buyer had to get an appraisal done in order to get a loan. When made the appointment he described the car to the appraiser and the appraiser told him there must be something wrong with the car because "no one would sell a car like that for that price". Well, there wasn't a huge difference between the selling price and the appraised value of $15,000, but I believe it shows that the nice third gens are on their way back up.
