Hi!-- I need help finding the build date of A 1988 Camaro IROC convertable. My name is mike.Andrew,and I live in Perth Western Australia.I recently purchased the car in Japan,and I am trying to import it to Australia.Unfortunately,due to the highly restrictive laws regarding importing secondhand motor vehicles into Australia(to protect the new car industry)the car has to be 15 yrs old.The system is A rolling year one,meaning the car has to have been manufactured in 1987.The VIN is 1G1FP31F1JL126306. I am hoping the low production sequence number means that the vehicle was manufactured in 1987.I do not have access to the vehicle as it is locked away on the docks in Japan,so I have no way of checking the tags.Any ideas? Can anybody help? Canberra is threatening to have the vehicle scrapped and fineing me if I ship the vehicle to Australia without approval:hail:

 

I just tried to run that vin through carfax--says there's no information on it--maybe because it's an import?

 

I would suggest you fudge it. Finding the exact build date would be nearly impossible, and even harder to prove. Just fudge together some false documentation.

 

Your car was built in November 1987, The VIN range for November 1987 is JL123854 through JL133172. the exact date can't be known unless you have the original Manufacturers statement of origin from GM. Chris
