does anyone know the part # for the steering Column Housing which receives that lock cylinder? it is # 18 in the picture below, and i don't think the # they have listed is the Actual GM part #...

 

I can help you, but I need some more info, I' pretty sure The part # is 7847978, Your car is Auto trans with Tilt, and intermittent wipers? to be sure look at the base of the column under the dash, there should be a label with a GM part # on the tag to I.D. the column (since the parts are listed in a steering column chart) let me know, I have a '82-92 Firebird partsbook at home. ya, its auto, tilt and intermettent wipers WITH VATS!!

which is important because the part i have right now, is without VATS. i need to know the # for cars with vats.. there actualy is a difference because a VATS key cylinder wont fit into the housing of what i have now. So i hope that can help you out more.. I really appreciate your help.:hail:

Ok, with VATS and UK6 which is steering wheel radio controls, your # should be 26008794, I'm taking this out of a 10 year old book, so the number may have changed, you can try your local GM dealer tomorrow or I'll check on the computer tomorrow for you, if you need it let me know and I'll get a price and send it to you. Chris. I did'nt know the Firebird used VATS in '88, I thought they started in '89 Like the Camaro .

 

ya it has radio controls etc.. and VATS started in 88 ONLY on GTA's and 89+ with all other f-bodies, which is probably why im having trouble finding everything.. thanks for your help..

 

On a 1988 Firebird TransAm GTA I show part number to be:

GM #7847978 at $77.85

It is showing to fit tilt column 82-89

No mention of radio controls or VAT information.

It is listed as a steering lock housing cover in our Mitchell Program.
