Original Build Sheets-under trunk carpet?

Hey everybody,
I replaced the rear trunk carpeting in my '87 Iroc today(original was worn to hell, and lumpy).I got a replacement same color and in near perfect shape out of an '88.I took the donor carpet out last week and all looked normal underneath(metal, factory mats, factory glue and somemore metal).Today,I pulled my old one out and beneath found the remnants of build sheets stuck to the metal(they're no good except what I could read printed on top). Was it common to leave the build sheets in the trunk and glue the carpet over them?Or was this a case of lazy factory workers dropping them in the trunk and saying "oh well"...?......just curious.I could make out part of my vin,my engine code, rear axle, interior and exterior style and color codes and someother numbers,etc....I thought it was kinda cool, just wish I could keep 'em.........

There is no rules for buildsheets. They were used on the assembly line as a guide for assembling the car. They weren't left so that owners 20 years later would have some documentation. Have a look at the previous threads on buildsheets for details.
