The t tops store in the compartment under the rear hatch. There are bags that are made to store them in, but the only one i've come across is being used as a seat cover on my uncle's riding lawnmower. If you can't acquire a bag just use a blanket to prevent their rubbing together while they're off.

my 84 trans am

To start i was doing some errands for work and well i pass this trans am for sale..... i look breifly and thought 2000 bux for it and thought nothing of it since i wasn't even looking for a car at the time nor did i need one. next day i was in the same area, same street and well i pass the car this time and instead of saying 2000 bux it said 200. i was like WHAT!?!?!?!?!?! i could part that thing out for more. after work that day i drove up to the guys house and first thing i said. whats wrong with it.

"trannys busted but it still runs"

i take a quick peek at it and return home. i brought up the idea of buying the car to my father and he said
"if it runs its up to you."

i thought hell its only 200 bux for a car. so i return to the guys house. I said lets see her start. hes like alright let me get the keys. so he comes back out 5 mins later, opens the car from the passengerdoor side. i thought hmm maybe the drivers side lock is busted....at that time hes rolling downt he power windows
'the locks jammed needs some AWD40"
i was like oh ok thats doable. he starts to crank the car over....turns and turns and turns but doesnt starts. hes like maybe it needs a good battery. to start it. i was like here try this one from my van. its like new 700 cold cranking amps. should start practically anything. So we switch the batteries out (forgot the jumpers at home thats why we switched them) so we hook up the battery and he turns the key again. turning.....turning.....but didn't start. hes like oh must be the battery cause it did start. at this point im getting a lil frustrated with it and i was about to say thanks but no thanks and walk off. but before i could, he says

"50 bux its yours"

i look over at my brother.....look back at him...
"what did you say?"

"50 bux and its yours the whole thing, im having it towed tomorrow if you don't take it"

bout a minute passes and i said
"why not"

so i get the papers, owners manuals, original sales receipt for the car which was approximately $18xxx bux at the time. came with the black paint and gold trim a lil spoiler, 14'' turbine rims. powerwindows, rear defogger, a/c. and 2 extra tires with 75% tred left on them. i figured i could atleast part this thing out for 400 bux easily. so i have it towed to my fathers office which was abou 2 km away. so it wasn't to bad. now i thought to myself, well if i use the remaining 150 bux that i thought iw as gonna buy the car for to see if i can get it started. first thing was to get a can of quickstart from crappy tire (8bux). sprayed some quickstart downt he carb and BOOM SHE TURNED OVER! but that was short lived, as soon as the quickstart burnt up it shut down. so right then it hate to do something with fuel. checked the cars fuel lines for any pinches/kinks....none found. looked at the mechanical fuel pump.....rusted out...hmmm i return to crappy tire and boom 32 bux for a fuel pump. (40 bux tottal) and while i was there i picked up some spark plugs (17 bux)(57 bux total so far). i return back to the office, take off the old fuel pump, put the new one back on. removed 7 spark plugs (i broke the 8th closest to the firewall what a bastard...) and well, decided why not see if i can get it going.

i turn it over.....and over....and over.....and over....stop pump the gas a few times.....and began to turn it over again and again.....nothing.....swapped batteries again...and thought if this thing isn't gonna start im a ditch it. pump the gas a few times and VROOOOOOOOOM with a HUGE cloud of black smoke out the tails. it has got to be one of the best sounds ive heard in a long time.(granted it was running on 7 so it was a lil lumpy). but hell it ran. and well for 107 bux i had the car running. and then came to the point of keeping it or selling it off. and well as you probably know ive kept it since im writing this story on the thirdgen.org boards. after getting it started i sent her in for the tranny. and WHOA SHE MOVES!!!! (600 bux later) at this time iw as like WICKED!!!!!!!!!!!! v8 power! (305 at the time). to get it saftied i had to get it etested, cat had a hole in it so i had a high flow cat put on (180 bux). and it failed......egr valve nothing major and boom passed. GReAT! now at this time i had sent it in to get it saftied. idler arms not right, balljoints dry, need new front brake lines AHHHHHHHHHHH fun stuff. well this shop i trust did the brake lines and changed that 8th spark plug for me. brought it back home and well at this time i had to go away for a baseball tourny. i get back and BOOM idler arms were replaced (bros did it for my bday present). sent her back in and BOOM PASSED! shes ready to be licensed!!!!!!! the following monday i go right into te licensing office, and got plates. SHES STREET LEgAL!!!!!!!!!

and ive been driving it since.

other things ive done while its been on the street was the body was redone, painted, soundsystem, and at the end of aug this yr had a 350 put in.

My 15th Anniversary Trans Am Adventure

On Sunday, Sep 4, 2004, my friend Ricardo called to let me know that he was at a car show and had found a cool project car that I should buy. It was a 1984 Trans Am, Black with an Auto and T-Tops going for about $700. I went to the show and gave it a look but it need an entire interior, their had been some hack work under the hood, and the lock-up converter on the THM200C tranny had to be actuated via a toggle switch under the dash. The clincher to me not buying it was when the seller inadvertantly shut the hatch on my buddy's fingers... That night, my friends and I were on eBay looking to test the waters. I really wasn't looking to get anything until we came across this one car. It was a 1984 15th Anniversary Trans Am, with a Manual Trans. What sold me on it (besides being in my price range) was that it was close by in NJ. I knew I wouldn't be able to afford shipping from anywhere to MA so if I were to buy, I would have to go and get it myself. The auction was going for $570 and was ending within two hours of us stumbling across this find. An hour later I decided to see if anyone was paying attention out there and bid $580. The current high bidder had a higher max bid than that, so it automatically brought him to $590. A little while later, another bidder enterred $600. The original bidder's max was apparently $600 because he was automatically brought to $600 and was still winning it. A few minutes later, the second person bid $610 and was then winning the auction. I then checked my funding options (which meant putting off a few bills which weren't at their deadline until the following week's pay came in) and came up with a number of $1000. I decided to bid $900 as my max just a few minutes before the auction ended. Thus, leaving $100 for going and getting the car if I indeed won it. The auction ended and I came away with the car for $620.00!!!! I sent the seller an email stating that I was available the next day to pick it up and would be bringing cash. The very next morning my four friends and I piled ourselves and every tool we could have conceiveably needed into Ricardo's loaner 2004 Mercury Sable Wagon (his 2003 SVT Cobra was getting touched up 'cause some moron keyed it) and headed off on our four hour journey from Boston MA to New Jersey. When we got their we went through the whole car, swapped in a battery (from my 88 Caprice 350 V8 beater) and got the thing runing. The money and paper work changed hands and I was on my way, the proud owner of another F-Body which happens to be a piece of history. But the story doesn't end here... Just a few blocks away, after filling the fuel tank, I began to smell the bitter sweet pugnant odor of antifreeze. We pulled into the PepBoys we passed on the way to pick up the car and got cracking. The motor had been pulled and rebuilt by the previous onwer. The instllation was far from professional. The puleys were not properly aligned so the alternator belt was tossed, taking the lower radiator hose with it. Ricardo and my self changed all the belts, installed them in the correct places and made sure they had the proper tension, changed the bottom hose, refilled the radiator, and I installed a PCV hose and new PCV valve. The old valve was plugged and had no hose attatched to it causing clouds of smoke to emerge from under the hood. Well, we were back on the road and just after PepBoys had closed on this lovely Labor Day Monday. Just a few blocks after getting back on track, the brake pedal decides to go all the way to the floor! I manage to bring the car to a halt (good thing its a manual) and pulled into a mall parking lot. Since PepBoys was already closed, and the nearby U-Haul had nothing that we could use to tow the car back, we had to leave the car at a Ramada Inn that we saw. We figured that a MA plate would not seem out of place at a Motel. So we went home empty handed and began formulating a plan of attack for the next day. Bright and early on Tuesday 9-7-2004, I went to my local U-Haul dealer to find out that they didn't have any small car dollies, only full sized trailers, but the next town over had one and would hold it. When I got there they told me that their company wide policy was that nothing towing related could be rented to ANY person driving a Ford Explorer... So the security truck I drive for my work was out of the question. I then phoned Ricardo who works at a Lincoln/Mercury dealer and put Plan B into effect. I went to his work and rented a Navigator using his employee discount which dramatically reduced the initial cost of the rental and (the main thing) only cost .20 per mile after the free 150 miles that come with it. So the 400+ mile round trip wasn't going to cost an arm and a leg... So after waking up at 8AM, my fiance Meghan and myself were on our way back to NJ by 1:30PM. It would have been more like 1PM, but the fine FORD product we had rented broke. Yes, the 2004 Lincoln Navigator fully loaded with DVD GPS Navigation had a defect. The console shifter **** came off its shaft when I shifted from drive to reverse while making a three point turn (blocking a small side street). So Meghan (she is way into cars too, both wrenching and driving) and I broke out the tools, disassembled most of the center console, and rebuilt the shifter assembley which had fallen apart. On the way there we were pulled over by one of Connecticut's Finest who asked why I was pulling a trailer in the left lane when there were plenty of signs stating that this was not allowed. My response was that I was concentrating on the exit numbers and appologized for the oversight. He verbally warned me to stay out of the left lane while pulling the trailer and sent me on my way... When we finally got back to that nice Ramada Inn where we left the car we were relieved to see that it was still there. We hooked it up to the trailer and were on our way back home. We ended up getting to Ricardo's house just after 3AM that night. One of Dedham's (the town next to Boston MA where Ricardo lives) Finest came up to us just as we were unloading to see what was going on (he was really busy that night) and we explained that we had just arrived to drop this car off blah blah blah, then he left us alone. Since it was so late, and the car had hack job headers installed, we just left it parked across the street for the night. The next day we came back and moved it into Ricardo's back yard and parked it under his portable tent which used to house his 1994 Thunderbird Super Coupe (his is a stick shift too). This is my story. Now I have a cool project which will turn into something awesome to cruise around in. In addition to this, now both my best friend and i can say that our pieces of history are limited edition, one of 500 made due to the 5 speed manual trannies... All in all it was an exciting extended weekend and I came out paying the $1000.00 I had originally intended too once the whole ordeal was totaled up.

Picture of my project...

Here is a picture of the project I picked up on Labor Day Weekend 2004: (if I can get it to work...)
More can be seen in the users rides section, including an action shot taken from the Navigator in motion on the highway of the car being towed behind it. Meghan risked life and limb sticking her head out of the pass. window to get this action shot... (the one in my "user rides" section, not the one below...)

A little over a year and a half ago I started going out with guy who had 86 Trans Am with a 305 TPI, but a year before that he had loaned it to his sister's boyfriend who wrecked it. So it just sat. Eventually it hurt me to see such a cool car just sit there so I bought it from him, and spent three months completely restoring it myself. Now it's my baby and worth every penny.

Hey, I just read the original post from "shipfitter_sjd

Free!

But......

Has a 2.8L that doesn't run, front end needs 2 fenders and a Fascia, looks like it has been wrecked in the past, so I will have to take it and get the front end straightend. Previous owner removed the rear shocks (WTF?), hood, interiors completely gone, and so is the radio. Has 3 cragar rims and 1 of the KITT car rims. All 4 tires are bald.

But she was free and she's mine...

Oh yea,

The WIFE found it for me and gave it to me as a project car...

P.S. She wanted to take auto mechanics in High School, but her mom wouldn't let her... Maybe this is how she is going to work that out of her system.......

In October of 2003, somebody I know locally got the 15th an Trans Am.....I knew nothing of them before hand but when I first saw it, I feel in love and absolutly loved it. At the time I had a 91 3.1 Firebird and intended on 350 swap that winter. 2 months, blown motor, smashed a/c and heater box later the kid told me he was selling it so I picked it for half what he paid. Late November I picked up the car and started pulling the motor etc.... later that winter I picked up a parts car to replace the heater box a/c lines...etc.. other stuff as well. There were time spends that it sat. I didn't go threw with the 350 swap, I kept the v6 firebird as a daily driver. I did lots of reasearch and learned about the 15th ann ta's and about motors...etc....
I soon decided to go with a stroked 406 setup in which I am still building to and intend having done in spring of 05.....

heres a few pics

NICE!!!!

WOW! Nice score! The moment I saw what was to become my 15th Anniversary I knew I couldn't let it slip away either. Now... Would you happen to know where I could find a Center Section for the Taillights???? The previous owner of mine felt that 86 Taillights looked better (????) and that is what I have on mine now! I can't seem to find them anywhere. Anyways. I hope you enjoy your car!

Thanks for your help! That real beat up one may just be the one that I bought... How long ago did it sell? I just got mine on Labor Day 2004. The same car sold previously to a deadbeat eBayer who disapearred, thus the car was relisted and I picked it up. The only center section I have is the 86 one which won't match the 84 style, I have a broken 84 center which i found in the trunk of my car, the car pictured is actually a pic I got from someone else... I also think that the 82 - 84 taillights are the best looking of all 3rd gen Firebird/Trans Am cars!

I got the pic above from GOOGLE. I typed in 15th Anniversary Trans Am and looked at all the results until I found one with a staright shot pic of the rear. I saved it, cut it up, re-saved it, and pasted it. If it really happens to be your car, I hope you don't mind me using the image... I am just frantically trying to correct the hacking of my car done by someone else.

If you scrol up on this page, you can see the eBay pic of my car at the bottom of one of my posts. You can see more of my car in the users rides section. Just look up my username JMD83.

I am 26 years old and have always wanted a project car. So, I saved my $ for awhile and got about $5000 saved up and started looking. My desire was for a muscle car. I looked at a 1967 camaro that was in awful shape with no motor, trans, doors, or hood and the guy wanted 4800 for it (more than I wanted to spend on a rolling chasis). Then I looked at a 69 GTO, it was the exact situation as the Camaro only the body was complete, but I really wanted a Camaro so I passed on that also. About 2 months and 8 cars later I was beggining to get very frustrated that I couldn't find my project muscle car. My room mate came in the living room right after I had searched the autotrader and I was cursing. He said 'What you still can't find a car?", I said "No, there is nothing worth a ****". He said, "here let me look" within 3 minutes he handed it back to me and pointed at this and said this car is bad @$$.

1992 Chevrolet Rally Sport 25th Anniversary Camaro, 305 V8, all black, garage kept, 119K miles, t-tops, all power, Pioneer CD with new Infinity speakers, very good condition, $4000

I went to look at the car the next morning and as soon as I pulled up to the house and saw it in the drive way I knew that I was going to buy it. So I talked the guy down to $3800 and it was mine. The car is in perfect condition and I've since realized that somehow I ended up buying a daily driver instead of a project, in fact, I have a very nice truck that was my daily driver before and in the last 6 months it hasn't left the garage. So, if anyone knows of a good project car for sale, let me know.. lol

I was going to go get a brand new 1998 LS1 bird. They were delivered late to the dealers and there were very few T56's and the ones that they had, they wouldn't deal on.

I test drove about 3 or 4 and kept browsing the papers. I always browsed the 3rd gens. I saw an ad over and over in Denver for a hail dented and high mileage 91 B4C.

Then I saw this one ad that simply said:

"1992 camaro RS, 350 TPI, custom paint, very low miles $7500"

and a phone number

I looked at it for about a week and being the nosy bastard that I am I decided to call to find out the deal. Knowing that a big chunk of all of the B4C's sold anywhere were in Denver and were mostly now in public hands my inquiry panned out.

The seller turned out to be some sort of Colorado Camaro club president/member. He told me he intentionally failed to mention B4C or copcar to filter out the riff-raff from the real 3rd gen and camaro connoisseurs. He was afraid of it passing into un-appreciating juvenile hands and knew a worthy owner would catch the ad right off.

He was restoring one 1 st gen had another already restored and was building a ZL1 replica. He gave me the killer (possibly now one of a kind) documentation I showed in my other post. He was the third owner including the state, and he told me of the story of the car and about the second owner.

The first owner was the city and county of Denver. This is obvious, I even found the registration in a pouch just under the dash.

The car was purchased in an order to replace a couple 91's destroyed in a deadly persuit. Since the others were so well worn, this one was kept as a "spare" and used by CHP big wigs occasionally. Hence the only 70,000 miles and near new condition.

The fleet manager took good care of the car, and went to auction with it's 91 bretheren to make way for the new 4th gen rides. The fleet manager loved the car, and with a plan he sent it to auction with the others with a freshly overhauled tranny and all new brakes. He then found out the sealed bid and purchasd it with plans to give it to his wife. When he won the auction, he sent it right to the paint shop where it recieved some "ok" bodywork and labor and high quality HOC "Candy Brandy Wine" paint.

He delivered it to his wife in the spring and she drove it for just a short time. When she quit driving it he asked her and she confided that it was too "fast?" and unruly he sold it to the 3rd owner.

I bought it from him and became the 4th owner. If I ever sell it, I will pass this along to the next owner.

Silver '83 T/A.

Person just happened to have the classifieds and I just happened to ask to look at them. Found 1983 Trans Am 5-spd, needs paint. $750 o.b.o. Went the next day, test drove it, and offered the $441 I had in my pocket and drove home with it. My '82 T/A soon got rearended after I bought this car, so it became my new project.

Blue '83 T/A.

Browsing the online classifieds I found a 1983 Trans Am "Project Car" sitting for 4 years. $600 o.b.o. When I got there I found a unmolested 93,000 mile LU5 '83 with almost perfect interior and t-tops. Offered $240 and she accepted. Threw a new battery in there and fired right up. Got all sorts of interesting papers with it.

the first time i seen my car it was sittin in a pond with about 8 inches of water inside it, we towed it home for the kid that had it, he whinned and cried the whole way home, seemed like a perfect opportunity for me to get my hands on a really sweet car at a sweet deal, so 400 bucks and i ate the tow bill and i had my baby, a ttops 305h.o. automatic 1984 z-28. car needed a few minor things, carpet cleaned and junk like that but the motor was still perfect, drove it for a while, now i am restoring the body and interior, just put the 355sbc in it. *** i love my mighty mighty maro lol

I bought mine new from Rick Hendrick Chevrolet on 4 April, 1990 in Charleston, SC. I know the history on my car better than I know anything else probably. I have a small hardback notebook I keep in the console with all of the maintenance and history of the car. I have the date/maintenance performed/performed by/ & mileage of everything from an engine change to a pcv valve change in it.

I traded 4 SVT wheels and tires for my 82 TA. And I still sold the mustang for only $200.00 less than I was asking.
I had to put a 305 into the car but now I drive it and beat on it everyday, next summer comes the 400 and hopefully new paint

Bought mine from a local Chevy dealer back in May 1995. It
is my first car, at the age of 18. It has gone through
a lot since then! Going on 10 years with seems to be a
complete restoration!

Even though these cars don't hold much value (minus
the TTAs, Firebird notchbacks, converts, etc. you get my
point!) I have sunk WAY over the value price of what it's
worth today! Am I attached to this car or what????

Bought mine locally through the regional Auto Trader...very expensive, near $9,000. Wasn't my first car...turned out to be rarer then I thought. It was my first F car, but had looked at a Smokey /Bandit style 2nd genner at a time. Now the car has reaped the toils of too many winters and bang ups from careless drivers and sits due to mechanicals as well. I lost my license, now I don't drive...have a limo, ride in the trunk, in case I get drunk...oh, that's someone else...hahaha

I was looking around for a car since I was 15 and I had finally narrowed it down to a camaro or firebird. I was sitting in my auto class sophmore year and overheard this one kid about his mom selling her firebird. so I got the info and found out it was a 91 with a V8 and 90k and auto. One thing lead to another and I looked at it, took it out for a test drive, finally bought it for $3200. It was a decent price, the interior and body were both in good shape and it ran good. I had to throw some money into it after I had gotten it. The windshield was cracked ($216), no driver's side cup holder ($36), new battery ($60), rear sway bar bolt was broke ($10), and some misc. light bulbs that were either burnt out or missing. All in all it has been a good car so far. The most unique thing is that I have cars & concepts t-tops.

I have always collected TA's, had one since I was 16 (still own it 80 TA). Anyway, the 80 I found sitting in an alley, got it for $500 from an owner that was away in military service. It had a bad motor but everything else was there, body in excellent shape. My 87 firebird was bought off of a friend who needed cash, got it for $800. I got my 85 TA (ws6) from a guy at a gas station. The guy said his "T-Bird" was nocking bad, and he could not get home. I looked outside and saw it was a TA, offered $300 and he took the offer. I got my 87 GTA off of ebay. Ive had others, but have sold them, so no need mentioning them.

I happen to have a 1988 transaxle Deville that needs a new trans. It will be mech complete far as I can tell with that out of the way. Shop figures 8 hours, my friend says 'bunk'. How'dya manage that?
I'd love the possibility of doing that myself, but I seriously doubt it hehehe

How I got Mine!

I bought my car from a co-worker. He had wound up with the car in a divorce. Unrelated but still interesting this was his second divorce from the same woman...

The car had been hers and while it had been well maintained mechanically, it had been neglected appearance wise. The car really looked like hell when I bought her, but I could see the potential.

I paid for the car and my friend found that he had to get his Ex to sign over the title. I immediatly put the car in the shop for a new top and interior while waiting on the title. My friend and his ex were sometimes on good terms and sometimes not... It sounded like she had serious snakes in her head... Anyway, The top and interior were done and I had the car moved from the Trimshop to the Body shop, and I still did not have the title. I was getting concerned... On the day I got the car out of the paint shop we finally got her signed title so I could officially put the car in my name.

But it still took a little while for the title paperwork to go through so on the day that I drove the car home from the paint shop I got pulled over by a local cop within sight of my home. He had noticed the car because of the new paint job and then noticed out of date - out of state plates... Luckily I had the bill of sale with me so there was no problem. The cop and I spent about ten minutes talking about the car and others that we had admired. I guess I made a friend there because none of the local police ever give the car a second look (I live in a fairly small town!)

Not long after the paint I got the new rims and tires on. We took a pic of the car and sent it to Lon's Ex. I understand that she was SICK at having sold it after seeing how well everything came together...

I drove the car to work this morning. Dang that car is fun to drive. It is supposed to be 70degrees this afternoon and I plan on being topless at lunch! (NOV. 29).

Somebody on this sight said "a car is not truely yours until you have blead on it..." I have thought of selling my Camaro and buying a Vette, but it doesn't take me long to remember the pleasure I have gotten from how the car responded to repairs/improvements I have made, and I always change my mind. So, I guess the saying is true.

Baring catastrophe, I will probably always have my camaro. If I one day park a vette beside it that's fine too!

My first car I had ever owned was an 88 Chevy Celebrity. I bought it for $200 and it was worth about $35. After the Fuel Pump went out, and the brake lines rusted open, and the Fuel lines rusted open, and 3/4 tires blew out, and the mystery no crank disease, I had to find a new car. I wanted a Trans Am, but found a girl selling her 84 Firebird SE for $1200. I grabbed it for a test drive, and being the first time I ever drove a Third Gen, I fell in love. And everything was pretty good about it except the paint, and someone had punched out the lock in the gas cap. So I told her I'd love to buy it, but I don't have the money and can only do $500. So she said $900. I said 8 and we made it a deal. That was a month ago, soo.... I haven't done much to the car yet. But damn do I love driving it.

I have posted about my Drivers, but there is a little story behind one of my parts cars...

I was not looking for a parts car, But I noticed an 83 Trans Am that a guy was selling... I was ok shape, had quite a bit of rust, But I wanted the Cowl induction stuff that I could only get from an early 80's Trans Am... So I stopped ant looked at it...

I was looking at the car and the owner walked up... I asked How much and he said $500... I was not THAT interested, so opened the hood, and there was the hood scoop stuff, I said, jokingly I will give you $50 for the aircleaner & stuff, he said, Take it... I was like Whoa...

Then I started to look in the Interior, and it has a set of seats that were used on the GTA... and it had some other cool stuff... But the front fender was bent a little...

I said Flippently, How about $250 for the whole car...

He said, "Take it" So I drove it to where it now resides... I got alot of good parts from that car... Well worth it... Rear hatch Shade, The Ultima seats which were recovered in Leather the hood scoop, which is now collecting dust since I went to TPI...

I thought it was a good buy...

My 83 Camaro I bought at a junkyard for $600 because it had TPI from an 87 Formula

I bought my '88 Formula w/t-tops, new, on Dec 24 1987, at Courtesy Pontiac in Honolulu. It had 5 miles on it when I went for the test drive, 10 miles when I drove it home. 88,000 miles later it was stolen. I never saw it again...

Now living in NC, my gf bought a '87 Camaro from the original owner in early 2001. It had a junkyard transmission, don't know if the engine was original or not. About a year after she bought it the engine broke an exhaust valve, at about 180000 miles. We towed it to a friends house and he slowly pulled the engine and tore it down. She bought a long block for it and there it sat until march '04. She had bought a '96 Camaro so had lost interest in getting it back on the road. When she paid off the '96 I asked her what she was doing with the '87. She asked me if I wanted it. A few days later the title was in my name. I finished putting the long block together, did some other repairs, and got it back on the road in August.

Bought my first one in germany(1985 IROC)Red 305 tpi T top. After 130,000 very dependable miles(changed a water pump and battery) and 7 years decided I needed a vert. Bought a new 1992 Z28 vert. It was red with a 305 tpi. So after 5 years and 100,000 very dependable miles(changed a water pump and battery) had to sell wife and kids etc. So in 1999 i started to get IROC itch but this time no red and it had to have a 350. So after a couple months I found the IROC of my dreams, you guessed it a red 305 tpi hardtop. But this time it had a 5 speed. So i had a red t-top 305/ red vert and red hardtop. Next time a 350 for sure!update- sold my iroc, I now own a bright red 350 g92 with a t-5 conversion!

How much did you get for the wife and kids? I have considered this, but I could not bring myself to part with them.

MORE

I posted the story of how I got my car above. I ran into the guy from whom I bought it today. He and I had a little business to discuss and being mid seventies in the first week of January I drove over to his office with the top down. I figure you have to enjoy those days while you can. Highs around here are usually in the mid fifties this time of year... Anyway, after our meeting he was walking with me out to the parking lot and he saw the car sitting there with the top down and just had to come take another look. I bought it from him about three years ago now. It had belonged to his Ex-wife and it turns out that she is from the same hometown as a Longtime GF of mine - now an EX GF and ironically, one of my best friends...

He reminisced about when he met his (EX) wife. At the time they were both living in Tampa Florida. She worked for the Chamber of Commerce and he sold advertising for a radio station. They had met each other through their business connections and he decided to ask her out. He went to pick her up in his 88 Iroc, and found that she was owned a '90 RS Vert. He said he thought to himself "This is really great! Two cool people living in Florida and who have really cool cars in common." He said the relationship was a lot of fun for a few years. The highs were high but the lows were low...

So, there is a little more of the story of the car. It probably wasn't interesting enough to type all that I have here. Maybe you had to be there to see his expressions etc. as he talked about the gal and the cars and those old times.

I still have to ask my Ex if she knew his Ex... They are about the same age and from the same hometown...
