Man, Have I screwed up my odometer!

Help!
A simple repair job has blown up in my face! I removed my instrument cluster to fix a non-functioning trip odometer(the classic j hooks breaking off problem) and when I put everyting back together my odometer had somehow rolled forward 150000 miles! I took it back out and tried to reset the numbers to their correct positions but no dice. In addition to that, it looks like a small plastic piece with notches in it that went behind the odometer has come out and I honestly do not know what function it serves but I'm sure it ties into my numbers rolling forward. I have spent 2 days trying to figure this one out-can anyone help that has experience with this sort of thing in speedometers?
What a dumbass I am-I should've just left well enough alone!
Mike

Thats easy. Just jack up the back of the car, put it in reverse and put a brick on the gas pedal. Also make sure the back end of your car is facing a bay window about 30ft off the ground. Didnt Ferris Bueler teach you anything?

Thanks, I needed a good laugh
Seriously, I don't think it can be fixed. I have looked at my rollers and I wouldn't attempt to try to alter them Looks like you might be better off looking for a new speedo with the approximate mileage you had.

I believe that is the tamper thing. If an odometer has been tampered with, those things will show up telling you that the odometer has been tampered with.
