82 83 84 bird pads vs 85-92 ones, difference?

ok i cant get a freaking straight answer out of anyone it seems

all i need to know is for sure if the 82 83 84 dash pads in the birds changed in 85 or not, or if all 82-92 pads are the same (in the birds)

yes, or no ?

if you dont know for SURE then please dont say anything

please!

im tired of getting both answers out of ppl

i could swear that we had it figured out on this forum that they are not the same pad after 84

but now its up in the air,

something about the vents changing or the speaker grilles changing

but would that prevent an 85 up pad from bolting into an 82 83 84 ?

yes?
no ?

thanks

From what I have read the only difference between them is cosmetic, that a 85 pad will bolt up fine to a firebird from 82-84. It's just the look is a little different.

the pads bolt-ups are the same, the earlier birds had a cosmetic indent that ran the full length of the dash pad edge to match the trim on the door panels somewhat.. the newer ones are smooth on the dash edge.. the speaker grilles changed too, though the air vents did not.. so with a newer dash you need newer grilles and vice versa.

How do I know? I have owned and bolted up both. Currently have an 85 up pad in my 82 bird.

I've got one from an 85 sitting right here (mint condition.. but no one wants to buy it lol) and it does NOT have the indent. If that helps.
