Lets see your 5pt harnesses!!

Im trying to get an idea on how everyone has their mounted, preferably with aftermarket seats. With my APCs, There is litterally like an inch between the back of the seat and the crossbar. so I got about 2 feet or so of extra belt hanging down. It for some reason doesnt look right. Im also curious how they look with various seat installs

here is mine.

I have mine attached to the floor behind the rear seats. It is legal if you use the plates that I am using back there. When not in use they pull through the seat, fold up and tuck away behind the 2 portions of the rear seats. If you wanna search my site there are many other pics that might better show what you wanna see.

That was way back in the day, when I had the rear points mounted to the floor. (NOT SAFE, car was still and still is being built)

Lemme know if you have any Q's. Later

dennis i'm not sure those are even safe or NHRA approved either without the crossbar in there to mount them off of. Not like anyone would want to be in the back seat regardless with all those bars in there

ya I was thinkin that for it to be legal, the shoulder belts had to be mounted to less then 4" below the drivers shoulders. I could be wrong though. Looks clean though

Yeah, might be true. This is a total street car. i kinda got those as well as installed the roll bar, "just for fun"..

I still have the stock belts in there, the 5 points are just fun, cuz they hug you so tight. As for the bar, I consider it as more of a SFC helper. hehe. Just to help tie it all togeather.

The rear seats are just there in case of an emergency where I NEED to take a 3rd or even 4th person home from some place.

I might take it to the track someday, but before I ever plan on making it a regualr thing, I will have a certified cage built for it.

My buddy Mike has a Malibu that runs low 12's and his harnesses are bolted to the floor behind the seats, and NewEngland Dragway tech has never given him a hard time about it.....

oh wow. Nice. Maybe I will have a chance to race this thing. Or at least see what it can do. I would be using the New England Dragway aswell. Its like an hour from me, but till the clossest place, by far. I will need to learn the rules for regulations and time... I am hoping for times like that if not in the 11's with all the N20 my motor was built to take.

id be scared to driev with the 5 pt harness that is to far down, in the event of a crash your back/spine is forced downwards and crushed as you go forward, just isnt worth the injury to me

While that is true. The amount that they really get used, like while drag racing... you are really not that likely to go into a wall. But yeah, I see your point of view. Thats why I moved my mounting points up.

True, but a seatbelt is always insurance for a "what if" kind of scenario. Just remember the old addage "do it right the first time". If it were for looks, then mounting them lower than recommended wouldnt be that big of a deal. But if they are used as the primary source for keeping you in the seat in the case of an accident, then I wouldnt recommend anything lower than shoulder level.

Having said that, lets see some more pics guys!!!

Oh well mine are 1/2 and 1/2. Mainly for looks I guess. I mean hell, my car is a street car after all. I just put them inthere to make that prostock look and to have them if I wanna use them at the track. My main restraint it still my stock belts.

I do not have pics to offer but maybe a suggestion. You see, I plan on adding a 5 point harness to my drivers seat and I will be utilizing the cross bar of my roll bar for the rear mounting point. I think this is the safest place to mount the shoulder belts. I welded my cross bar in place and I wish I didnt. Now I cant recline my seat. If I do decide to do the harness then I think I will cut the bar out and weld in some of those kits they have for the "street" cages. That way there, I can pull the pins out and remove the bar when I take the kids to the local car show. I can always reinstall it when I decide to go to the track. Also, there is a company out there that sells a bracket that mounts under the front seat utilizing the seat bolts and gives you the 5th mounting point for the harness. Let me see if I can find it.

Yes Dennis' setup is not safe or legal. I don't have a cage in but with my harness' in I only used the lap belts (I guess not much better but won't crush my spine) when I did the couple test drives with the new motor. I've had my eye on the Wolfe crotch strap brackets for a while now but realized I can make them cheap and quickly when the interior time comes.
